{"id":81232,"date":"2026-01-06T13:27:48","date_gmt":"2026-01-06T07:57:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=81232"},"modified":"2026-01-06T13:46:17","modified_gmt":"2026-01-06T08:16:17","slug":"popocatepetl-volcano","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/popocatepetl-volcano\/","title":{"rendered":"Popocat\u00e9petl Volcano"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>Popocat\u00e9petl Volcano Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Recently, a team of scientists obtained the first 3D images from inside Mexico&#8217;s Popocat\u00e9petl volcano.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Popocat\u00e9petl Volcano<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Popocat\u00e9petl <\/span><b>means &#8220;Smoking Mountain\u201d in the Aztec Nahuatl language.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Location:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> It is located in <\/span><b>central Mexico<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> roughly 45 miles (72 kilometers) southeast of Mexico City.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is on the border of the states of <\/span><b>M\u00e9xico and Puebla.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The volcano lies on the <\/span><b>Trans-Mexican Volcanic Belt<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, which is the result of the small Cocos Plate subducting beneath the <\/span><b>North American Plate.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is one of Mexico&#8217;s <\/span><b>most active volcanoes,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> with recorded eruptions since 1519.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Elevation:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> It is a <\/span><b>steep-sided stratovolcano<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that rises to an <\/span><b>elevation of 5452 m<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (17,883 ft) above sea level.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Popocat\u00e9petl is one of the most dangerous <\/span><b>volcanoes in the <a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/ring-of-fire\/\" target=\"_blank\">Ring of Fire.<\/a><\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><b>What is Stratovolcano?<\/b><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is a tall, <\/span><b>steep, and cone-shaped type<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of volcano.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">They are typically found <\/span><b>above subduction zones,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and they are often part of large volcanically active regions, such as the Ring of Fire that frames much of the Pacific Ocean.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">They comprise the largest percentage (~60%) of the Earth\u2019s individual volcanoes.<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These more viscous lavas allow gas pressures to build up to high levels.
