


{"id":81415,"date":"2026-01-07T13:11:30","date_gmt":"2026-01-07T07:41:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=81415"},"modified":"2026-01-07T14:01:14","modified_gmt":"2026-01-07T08:31:14","slug":"melghat-tiger-reserve","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/melghat-tiger-reserve\/","title":{"rendered":"Melghat Tiger Reserve"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>Melghat Tiger Reserve Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Recently, the Bombay Natural History Society (BNHS) has released 15 critically endangered Indian vultures at the Melghat Tiger Reserve in Maharashtra.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Melghat Tiger Reserve<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Location:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> It is situated\u00a0 in the <\/span><b>state of Maharashtra.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is located on the <\/span><b>southern offshoot of the <a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/upsc-exam\/satpura-national-park\/\" target=\"_blank\">Satpura Hill Range<\/a><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in Central India, called <\/span><b>Gavilgarh Hill.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It was the <\/span><b>first<\/b> <b>tiger reserve in Maharashtra.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The name \u2018Melghat\u2019 means the confluence of various \u2018ghats\u2019 or valleys, as is typical from the landscape of this tiger reserve.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Vegetation:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> The forest is <\/span><b>tropical dry deciduous in nature<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, dominated by teak.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Rivers:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> The reserve is a catchment area for five major rivers: the <\/span><b>Khandu, Khapra, Sipna, Gadga, and Dolar,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> all of which are <\/span><b>tributaries of the river Tapti.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Boundaries:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> The <\/span><b>Tapti River<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and the <\/span><b>Gawilgadh ridge<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of the Satpura Range form the boundaries of the reserve.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Tribes:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> The <\/span><b>Korkus<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> are the largest tribal community in Melghat.
