


{"id":81736,"date":"2026-01-09T15:02:55","date_gmt":"2026-01-09T09:32:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=81736"},"modified":"2026-01-09T15:14:43","modified_gmt":"2026-01-09T09:44:43","slug":"kamala-hydroelectric-project","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/kamala-hydroelectric-project\/","title":{"rendered":"Kamala Hydroelectric Project"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>Kamala Hydroelectric Project Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Public Investment Board (PIB) recently gave approval for the Rs 26,070-crore, 1,720 MW Kamala hydroelectric project in Arunachal Pradesh.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Kamala Hydroelectric Project<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is a <\/span><b>1,720 MW<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> hydroelectric project proposed on the <\/span><b>Kamala River<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (a major t<\/span><b>ributary of the Subansiri <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">River) in<\/span><b> Arunachal Pradesh<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8216;s Kamle district.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is a <\/span><b>storage-based scheme <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">with a<\/span><b> flood moderation component.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The project involves construction of a 216-metre-high <\/span><b>concrete gravity dam <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and an <\/span><b>underground powerhouse.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The project will generate 6,869.92 MU of green energy annually on completion.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In addition to power generation, the project <\/span><b>also envisaged to provide flood relief in the Brahmaputra valley.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The project will be <\/span><b>implemented <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">on a <\/span><b>Build-Own-Operate-Transfer (BOOT) basis<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> through a<\/span><b> joint venture company<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> with <\/span><b>74% equity by NHPC and 26% by the Govt of Arunachal Pradesh (GoAP).<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The completion cost of the project is estimated at Rs 26,069.50 crore.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The project\u2019s financing structure reflects strong institutional backing, with a <\/span><b>70:30 debt-equity ratio, substantial Central grants<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2014Rs 1,340 crore for enabling infrastructure and Rs 4,743.98 crore for flood moderation\u2014and 100 percent SGST reimbursement by the Arunachal Pradesh Government.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Source: <\/b><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/timesofindia.indiatimes.com\/india\/public-investment-board-approves-kamala-hydroelectric-project-in-arunachal-pradesh\/articleshow\/126421393.cms\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">TOI<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Kamala Hydroelectric Project is a 1,720 MW hydroelectric project proposed on the Kamala River (a major tributary of the Subansiri River) in Arunachal Pradesh&#8217;s Kamle district.
