{"id":81762,"date":"2026-01-09T14:28:37","date_gmt":"2026-01-09T08:58:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=81762"},"modified":"2026-01-09T15:16:46","modified_gmt":"2026-01-09T09:46:46","slug":"m-stripes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/m-stripes\/","title":{"rendered":"M-STrIPES"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>M-STrIPES Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Forest staff who are to be involved in the census of tigers and other wild animals at Anamalai Tiger Reserve will be using the advanced Monitoring System for Tigers: Intensive Protection and Ecological Status (M-Stripes\/MSTrIPES) app.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About M-STrIPES<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The MSTrIPES (<\/span><b>Monitoring System for Tigers: Intensive Protection and Ecological Status)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is a <\/span><b>software-based monitoring system<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> created to<\/span><b> assist patrol and protect tiger habitats.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It was launched by the<\/span><b> National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) along with the Wildlife Institute of India in 2010.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is designed to assist wildlife protection, monitoring, and management of Protected Areas.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The programme consists of <\/span><b>two parts<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: <\/span><b>an analytical engine with a central desktop software<\/b> <b>and an online analysis tool<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and <\/span><b>an Android-based mobile application<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that <\/span><b>records field observations and tracks using real-time GPS.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It uses Global Positioning System <\/span><b>(GPS), General Packet Radio Services (GPRS), and remote sensing,\u00a0<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">to <\/span><b>collect information from the field<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>create a database<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> using modern Information Technology (IT)-based tools<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>analyze the information <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">using GIS and statistical tools\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">to <\/span><b>provide inferences<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that allow tiger reserve managers <\/span><b>to better manage their wildlife resources.<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Under MSTrIPES protocols, <\/span><b>forest guards<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> are expected to <\/span><b>patrol their beats<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><b>record their tracks using a GPS,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in addition to <\/span><b>recording observations in site-specific data sheets.<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Beat is the smallest unit of forest administration in India since British time<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and usually one forest guard is assigned for one beat.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Key Facts about Anamalai Tiger Reserve<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is located at an altitude of 1400 m in the <\/span><b>Anamalai Hills <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">of Pollachi and Coimbatore District of <\/span><b>Tamil Nadu.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It lies <\/span><b>south of the Palakkad gap<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in the <\/span><b>Southern Western Ghats.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is surrounded by the Parambikulum Tiger Reserve on the east, Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary, and Eravikulum National Park on the southwestern side.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is inhabited by six <\/span><b>indigenous communities,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> viz., <\/span><b>Kadar, Muduvar, Malasar, Malai malasar, Eravalar, and Pulayar.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Flora<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: The reserve is rich in <\/span><b>wild relatives of cultivated species like mango, jackfruit, wild plantain<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, ginger (Zingiber officinale), turmeric, pepper (Piper longum), cardamom, etc.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;
