{"id":8182,"date":"2026-06-30T12:30:30","date_gmt":"2026-06-30T07:00:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=8182"},"modified":"2026-06-30T13:24:22","modified_gmt":"2026-06-30T07:54:22","slug":"national-investment-and-infrastructure-fund-niif","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/national-investment-and-infrastructure-fund-niif\/","title":{"rendered":"National Investment and Infrastructure Fund (NIIF)"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>National Investment and Infrastructure Fund (NIIF) Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Union Cabinet recently approved an additional Government of India\u2019s investment commitment of Rs. 30,000 crore towards new and upcoming funds of the National Investment and Infrastructure Fund.\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About National Investment and Infrastructure Fund (NIIF)<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is a fund <\/span><b>created <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">by the<\/span><b> Government of India<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">enhancing <\/span><b>infrastructure financing<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in the country.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is<\/span><b> India\u2019s first<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">-eve<\/span><b>r sovereign wealth fund (SWF).<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">NIIF got <\/span><b>registered with SEBI as Category II <a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/upsc-exam\/alternative-investment-funds\/\" target=\"_blank\">Alternative Investment Fund (AIF)<\/a><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> on December 28, <\/span><b>2015<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is a collaborative investment platform for <\/span><b>international and Indian investors<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> with a mandate to <\/span><b>invest equity capital in domestic infrastructure.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">NIIF invests across <\/span><b>asset classes<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> such as <\/span><b>infrastructure, private equity,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and other diversified sectors in India, with the objective of generating <\/span><b>attractive risk-adjusted returns for its investors.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It i<\/span><b>nvests in greenfield (new), brownfield (existing), and stalled projects.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">NIIF is <\/span><b>49% owned by the Indian government <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and has more than $5 billion in assets under management, making it the <\/span><b>country\u2019s biggest infrastructure fund<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">NIIF benefits from its association with the Government yet is <\/span><b>independent in its investment decisions.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is <\/span><b>professionally run and managed<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> by <\/span><b>National Investment and Infrastructure Fund Limited (NIIFL).\u00a0\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Over the years, NIIF has <\/span><b>attracted investments<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> from <\/span><b>leading global sovereign wealth funds, pension funds, multilateral development institutions,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and domestic financial institutions.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Currently, there are <\/span><b>four funds under the NIIF Umbrella.\u00a0\u00a0<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>NIIF Master Fund: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This fund primarily invests in <\/span><b>infra-related projects <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">such as roads, ports, airports, and power. It is the largest infrastructure fund in India.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>NIIF Private Markets Fund: Invests in funds managed by third-party managers <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">in infrastructure and associated sectors.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>NIIF Strategic Opportunities Fund:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> It invests and<\/span><b> develops large-scale businesses and greenfield projects<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that are of <\/span><b>strategic importance<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to the country.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>India-Japan Fund:\u00a0<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>NIIF\u2019s first bilateral fund<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> invests in environment preservation in India.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It also seeks to enable opportunities for collaboration between Indian and Japanese companies in India.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Fund has a<\/span><b> target corpus of US$600 million<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, with the <\/span><b>Government of India contributing 49%<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and the remaining <\/span><b>51% contributed by the Japan Bank for International Cooperation,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> a policy-based financial institution wholly owned by the Government of Japan.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>News<\/b><strong>: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pib.gov.in\/PressReleasePage.aspx?PRID=2279107&amp;reg=48&amp;lang=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">PIB<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>National Investment and Infrastructure Fund (NIIF) is a fund created by the Government of India for enhancing infrastructure financing in the country.
