{"id":81888,"date":"2026-01-10T13:21:47","date_gmt":"2026-01-10T07:51:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=81888"},"modified":"2026-01-10T14:46:18","modified_gmt":"2026-01-10T09:16:18","slug":"ratapani-tiger-reserve","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/ratapani-tiger-reserve\/","title":{"rendered":"Ratapani Tiger Reserve"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>Ratapani Tiger Reserve Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister recently announced that the newly designated Ratapani Tiger Reserve will be named after the renowned archaeologist and Padma Shri awardee Dr Vishnu Shridhar Wakankar.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Ratapani Tiger Reserve<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is situated in the Raisen and Sehore districts of <\/span><b>Madhya Pradesh.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This forest is spread over hills of the <\/span><b><a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/mountain-ranges-in-india\/\" target=\"_blank\">Vindhya ranges<\/a>.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is spread over an area of 1,271 sq.km.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It <\/span><b>runs parallel<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> on the <\/span><b>northern side of the Narmada River<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. The <\/span><b>Kolar River<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> forms the <\/span><b>western boundary <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">of the reserve.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Two large reservoirs,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> namely <\/span><b>Barna Reservoir and Ratapani Dam (Barrusot Lake)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> are among the major water bodies adjacent to or inside the reserve.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The landscape is undulating, with hills, plateaus, valleys, and plains.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The reserve has <\/span><b>Bhimbetka<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, a <\/span><b>group of rock shelters and rock paintings<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, which is one of the \u201d <\/span><b>World Heritage Sites <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201d declared by UNESCO.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It also encompasses many other historical and religious destinations like<\/span><b> Ginnourgarh Fort, POW camp, Keri Mahadeo, Ratapani Dam, Jholiyapur Dam, etc.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Flora:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> The forest of Ratapani is a <\/span><b>dry deciduous and moist deciduous type,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> with teak (Tectona grandis) as the main tree species.
