


{"id":82020,"date":"2026-07-24T15:35:56","date_gmt":"2026-07-24T10:05:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=82020"},"modified":"2026-07-24T15:46:38","modified_gmt":"2026-07-24T10:16:38","slug":"aerosols","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/aerosols\/","title":{"rendered":"Aerosols"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>Aerosols Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A new study revealed that South Asia faces the highest climate impacts from dust-pollution aerosols, leading to significant atmospheric heating.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Aerosols<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Aerosols are <\/span><b>tiny particles suspended in the atmosphere.<\/b><\/li>\n<li><b>Source: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">They originate from sources such as <\/span><b>desert dust, vehicle emissions, industrial pollution and forest fires.<\/b><\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><b>Properties<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li><b>Size:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Aerosols range in size from a <\/span><b>few tens of nanometers<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to several tens of micrometers.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These particles <\/span><b>can either reflect sunlight back into space or absorb it<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">,<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">They are often <\/span><b>not or barely visible to the human eye<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, yet their impact on climate, weather, health, and ecology are significant.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These particles alter Earth&#8217;s energy balance and <\/span><b>influence temperatures, <a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/cloud-formation\/\" target=\"_blank\">cloud formation<\/a> and rainfall.<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><b>Types<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li><b>Primary Aerosols:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> These are injected into the atmosphere directly and are known as <\/span><b>&#8216;primary aerosols&#8217;<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Examples:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Sea spray, mineral dust, smoke, and volcanic ash are all primary aerosols.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Secondary aerosols:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> These are aerosols which were <\/span><b>emitted in another form<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (e.g. gases), then become aerosol particles after going through chemical reactions in the atmosphere,<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Example:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0 <\/span><b>Sulfate aerosols<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> from volcanoes or industrial emissions.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><b>Key Highlights of the Study<\/b><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Scientists classified aerosols into <\/span><b>seven categories:<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pure dust, dust-dominated mixtures, pollution-dominated mixtures, very weakly absorbing, weakly absorbing, moderately absorbing and strongly absorbing aerosols<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pure dust dominates northern Africa, while Europe and North America are largely characterised by <\/span><b>less-absorbing urban and industrial aerosols<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Strongly absorbing aerosols<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, which often contain high levels of black carbon, produced the <\/span><b>greatest atmospheric warming.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Very weakly<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> absorbing aerosols had the lowest atmospheric forcing, reflecting more sunlight back into space and producing a much smaller warming effect.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Tropical regions<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> affected by biomass burning are mainly dominated by <\/span><b>strongly absorbing aerosols.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Black carbon-rich<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> aerosols drive stronger warming<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Sou<\/b><strong>rce: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pib.gov.in\/PressReleaseDetail.aspx?PRID=2288312&amp;reg=3&amp;lang=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">PIB<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Read about aerosols, their types, sources, properties, and climate impact.
