{"id":8253,"date":"2022-11-17T04:21:53","date_gmt":"2022-11-16T22:51:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=8253"},"modified":"2025-03-29T01:56:04","modified_gmt":"2025-03-28T20:26:04","slug":"target-olympic-podium-top-scheme","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/target-olympic-podium-top-scheme\/","title":{"rendered":"Target Olympic Podium (TOP) Scheme"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>About\u00a0Target Olympic Podium (TOP) Scheme:<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>The funding is being provided under Sports Authority of India\u2019s (SAI) Target Olympic Podium Scheme.<\/li>\n<li>The TOPS Scheme has seen successes in the form of PV Sindhu (badminton) and Sakshi Malik (wrestling), who won the silver and bronze medals respectively in the 2016 Rio Olympics.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><strong>TOP Scheme<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>What is it?\u00a0<\/strong>It is a flagship program of the\u00a0<strong>Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports (MYAS)<\/strong>\u00a0which is an attempt to provide assistance to India\u2019s top athletes.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Launch:<\/strong>\u00a0It was started in September 2014 and was revamped in April 2018 to establish a technical support team for managing the TOPS athletes and providing holistic support.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Mission Olympic Cell:\u00a0<\/strong>It is a dedicated body created to assist the athletes who are selected under the TOP Scheme. The MOC is under the\u00a0<strong>Chairmanship of the Director General, Sports Authority (DG, SAI).<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>TOPS Elite Athletes\u2019 Identification Committee:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>It was constituted to\u00a0<strong>identify the elite athletes<\/strong>\u00a0who could achieve the Olympic podium.<\/li>\n<li><strong>MYAS is responsible for appointment of TOPS members<\/strong>\u00a0with emphasis on ensuring representation from \u2018High-Priority\u2019 sports (Archery, Badminton, Boxing Hockey, Shooting and Wrestling).<\/li>\n<li>The total members of the committee are to be decided by MYAS.
