{"id":8257,"date":"2026-07-24T13:00:15","date_gmt":"2026-07-24T07:30:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=8257"},"modified":"2026-07-24T13:36:50","modified_gmt":"2026-07-24T08:06:50","slug":"east-asia-summit","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/east-asia-summit\/","title":{"rendered":"East Asia Summit (EAS)"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>East Asia Summit Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Participating in the 21<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">st<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> East Asia Summit in Manila, the External Affairs Minister recently said that the global maritime channels \u201cmust remain safe and unimpeded\u201d. <\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About East Asia Summit<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is the <\/span><b>Indo-Pacific\u2019s premier forum<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for <\/span><b>strategic dialogue.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is the <\/span><b>only leader-led forum<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> at which <\/span><b>all key Indo-Pacific partners meet<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to discuss political, security, and economic challenges facing the region.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It was <\/span><b>established <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">in <\/span><b>2005 <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">with the convening of the<\/span><b> 1st Summit in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Members<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">:\u00a0<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The EAS has <\/span><b>19 members<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: the <\/span><b>11 <a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/upsc-exam\/asean\/\" target=\"_blank\">ASEAN countries<\/a><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Timor-Leste, and Vietnam) along with <\/span><b>Australia, China, India, Japan, New Zealand,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> the <\/span><b>Republic of Korea, Russia, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and the <\/span><b>United States.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Timor-Leste<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> became the<\/span><b> latest member <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">of the EAS following its ASEAN accession on 26 October 2025.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">India is a founding member of EAS.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>ASEAN leads the forum<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and the <\/span><b>chair rotates annually among ASEAN member<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> states.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Six priority areas<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of regional cooperation within the framework of the EAS:<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Environment and Energy,<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Education,<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Finance,<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Global Health Issue<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">s and Pandemic Diseases,<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Natural <\/span><b>Disaster Management<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>ASEAN Connectivity.<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The EAS is an<\/span><b> annual Leaders&#8217; Summit <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">usually held in October or November.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Along with the Leaders&#8217;
