


{"id":8333,"date":"2025-09-20T12:38:57","date_gmt":"2025-09-20T07:08:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=8333"},"modified":"2025-09-20T14:39:36","modified_gmt":"2025-09-20T09:09:36","slug":"kurmi-community","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/kurmi-community\/","title":{"rendered":"Kurmi Community"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>Kurmi Community Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Defying prohibitory orders, Kurmis began their rail blockade at various stations in Jharkhand recently to press demand for a ST status for the community and inclusion of the Kurmali language in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Kurmi Community<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Kurmis, also known as <\/span><b>Kunbi<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, are a <\/span><b>Hindu farming caste in India and Nepal.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The term &#8220;Kurmi&#8221; is believed to be <\/span><b>derived from the Sanskrit word &#8220;Krishi<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">,&#8221; which <\/span><b>means agriculture.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">They are <\/span><b>mostly found <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">in the <\/span><b>lower regions of the <a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/indo-gangetic-plains\/\" target=\"_blank\">Indo-Gangetic plains<\/a><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, especially <\/span><b>southern regions of Awadh, eastern Uttar Pradesh <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and <\/span><b>parts of Bihar.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is believed that the Kurmis were <\/span><b>descendants of ancient Kshatriya warriors who practiced agriculture.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There are <\/span><b>several sub-groups <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">within the Kurmi caste called gotras.
