{"id":83368,"date":"2026-01-20T13:20:54","date_gmt":"2026-01-20T07:50:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=83368"},"modified":"2026-01-20T16:36:51","modified_gmt":"2026-01-20T11:06:51","slug":"ins-sudarshini","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/ins-sudarshini\/","title":{"rendered":"INS Sudarshini"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>INS Sudarshini Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Indian Navy\u2019s Sail Training Ship INS Sudarshini will embark on the flagship voyage of Lokayan 26, a 10-month transoceanic expedition.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About INS Sudarshini<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is an indigenously built <\/span><b>Sail Training Ship (STS).<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It was built by <\/span><b>Goa Shipyard Limited<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><b>based at Kochi<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, Kerala under the Southern Naval Command of the Indian Navy.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It was successfully built and was <\/span><b>commissioned on 27 Jan. 2012.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The aim of using such ships is to make <\/span><b>sailors sea-friendly,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> as they are taught how to survive alone at sea, understand rough weather conditions and train themselves to become good sailors.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Features of INS Sudarshini<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sudarshini is a <\/span><b>three-masted barque.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is capable of <\/span><b>operations under sail or power.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It has a <\/span><b>very high endurance<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and can be deployed at sea continuously for a period of <\/span><b>twenty days.<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><b>What is Lokayan 26?<\/b><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is a <\/span><b>10-month transoceanic expedition<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> where the ship will sail over 22,000 nautical miles, visiting 18 foreign ports across 13 countries.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">During this journey INS Sudarshini participates in prestigious international tall-ship events \u2013 <\/span><b>Escale \u00e0 S\u00e8te, in France<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and <\/span><b>SAIL 250, in New York<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, USA.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Also <\/span><b>Indian Navy and Indian Coast Guard trainees<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> will undergo intensive sail training, gaining invaluable experience in long-range ocean navigation.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Source:<\/b> <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pib.gov.in\/PressReleasePage.aspx?PRID=2216218&amp;reg=3&amp;lang=2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">PIB<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>INS Sudarshin is an indigenously built Sail Training Ship (STS).
