


{"id":83606,"date":"2026-01-21T15:22:53","date_gmt":"2026-01-21T09:52:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=83606"},"modified":"2026-01-21T15:36:03","modified_gmt":"2026-01-21T10:06:03","slug":"parbati-giri","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/parbati-giri\/","title":{"rendered":"Parbati Giri"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>Parbati Giri Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Prime Minister recently paid homage to freedom fighter Parbati Giri on the occasion of her birth centenary, saying that she played a commendable role in India\u2019s freedom struggle against colonial rule.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Parbati Giri<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Also known as the <\/span><b>Mother Teresa of Western Odisha<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and epithet as \u2018<\/span><b>Banhi-kanya\u2019<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (<\/span><b>daughter of fire) Giri <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">was a prominent <\/span><b>freedom fighter from Odisha.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">While she fought for the Independence of India, <\/span><b>after independence<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> she <\/span><b>dedicated her life as a social worker.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Born on 19 January 1926 to mother Srimati and father Dhananjay Giri of Samleipadar village near Bijepur of the present Bargarh district and undivided Sambalpur district of Odisha, she was filled with patriotism since childhood.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In <\/span><b>1942<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><b>she was just 16 <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">when she was in the <\/span><b>forefront of agitation following Mahatma Gandhi\u2019s \u2018<a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/upsc-exam\/quit-india-movement\/\" target=\"_blank\">Quit India\u2019 movement<\/a>.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">She had also <\/span><b>staged an agitation at Bargarh Court<\/b> <b>to persuade the lawyers to boycott the erstwhile court in defiance of the British.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Parbati Giri initiated her journey as a freedom fighter from her village only.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">She was <\/span><b>inspired by Gandhian philosophy.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> She had even come in contact with Mahatma Gandhi.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">She had <\/span><b>taken tutelage at the famous Ashrams in Bari, Wardha, and Delhi Gandhi Sebashram.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Giri was also <\/span><b>associated with freedom fighter and social reformer Rama Devi.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Dearly known as Badamaa (Big mother) to the inmates of her Ashrams,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> the legendary woman from the Western Odishan district Bargarh <\/span><b>worked for the poor<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and downtrodden till her death.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Source: <\/b><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/ddnews.gov.in\/en\/pm-modi-highlights-parbati-giris-contributions-to-indias-freedom-struggle-on-her-birth-anniversary\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">DDN<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Parbati Giri was a prominent freedom fighter from Odisha.
