{"id":8421,"date":"2023-04-11T03:22:30","date_gmt":"2023-04-10T21:52:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=8421"},"modified":"2025-03-29T02:55:41","modified_gmt":"2025-03-28T21:25:41","slug":"suhelwa-wildlife-sanctuary","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/suhelwa-wildlife-sanctuary\/","title":{"rendered":"Suhelwa Wildlife Sanctuary (SWS)"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>About Suhelwa Wildlife Sanctuary (SWS):<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Location<\/strong>: It is located in the Shravasti, Balrampur, and Gonda districts of <strong>Uttar Pradesh.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>The forest of SWS <strong>was owned by Maharaja of Balrampur<\/strong> before the implementation of the Zamindari Abolition Act 1952 and was known as Balrampur Estate.<\/li>\n<li>It was declared a Wildlife Sanctuary in 1988.<\/li>\n<li>Sprawling an area of 452 sq km, this sanctuary is a strip of land, approximately, 120 km long from the east to west and 6-8 km wide.<\/li>\n<li>The Sohelwa Wild Life Division is <strong>situated on the Indo-Nepal International Border<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>It is one of the important places in the <strong>Bhabar-Tarai Eco-System area,<\/strong> which is rich in biodiversity.<\/li>\n<li>The <strong>Tharu tribe,<\/strong> having mongoloid features, have been residents of this area since long.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Vegetation<\/strong>: A <strong>mixture of deciduous and semi-evergreen woodlands<\/strong> defines the sanctuary.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Flora<\/strong>: <strong>Bahera, Phaldu,Sal, Teak,<\/strong> Dhamina, Jamun, Shisham, Jigna, Haldu, Asna, and Khair are some of the most common trees found in SWS.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Fauna<\/strong>:\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Tigers, Leopard<\/strong>, Cheetal, Bear, Wolfe, Hare, Jackal, Wild Boar, Sambar, Mankey, Langoor, Python, Otters, etc. can be commonly sighted.<\/li>\n<li>A number of birds like <strong>Black Partridge<\/strong>, Quails, Peacocks, Kingfishers, Bulbuls, Mynahs, Eagles, Nightingales, Cuckoo, and Owls, etc. also inhabit the forest area.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1: What is a tiger reserve?<\/h3>\n<p>Tiger Reserve is a legally declared protected area dedicated to the conservation of striped big cats. A tiger reserve, on the other hand, could be a national park or wildlife sanctuary.
