


{"id":85212,"date":"2026-01-31T17:40:37","date_gmt":"2026-01-31T12:10:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=85212"},"modified":"2026-01-31T17:40:37","modified_gmt":"2026-01-31T12:10:37","slug":"dharavi-redevelopment-project","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/dharavi-redevelopment-project\/","title":{"rendered":"Dharavi Redevelopment Project, Significance, Recent Initiatives"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Dharavi Redevelopment Project is <\/span><b>one of the world\u2019s largest urban redevelopment project<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><b>aiming to transform Dharavi &#8211; Asia\u2019s largest slum located in central Mumbai, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">into a into a well-connected, transit-oriented urban zone, with emphasis on decongestion, multi-modal integration and inclusive public spaces.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It was<\/span><b> approved in 2022<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><b>aims to rehouse nearly 1 million residents by 2032 into modern, high-rise tenements<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> while upgrading infrastructure and preserving local industries.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><strong>Dharavi Redevelopment Project Implementation<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Dharavi Redevelopment Project is being <\/span><b>implemented as a <a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/upsc-exam\/public-private-partnership\/\" target=\"_blank\">Public-Private Partnership<\/a> (PPP). <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>Government of Maharashtra <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">owns the land and provides regulatory oversight through the Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA) while the private partner, the <\/span><b>Adani Group,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> via its Special Purpose Vehicle <\/span><b>Navbharat Mega Developers Private Limited (<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">NMDPL) is responsible for financing, planning, construction, and execution. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In this SPV, <\/span><b>Adani Properties Private Limited (APPL) holds an 80 per cent stake, while the remaining 20 per cent is held by the SRA. <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>gross area of the Dharavi Notified Area<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is approximately 253.7 hectares.
