possible sale of Javelin missiles and Excalibur projectiles and related equipment to India for an estimated total cost of $92.8 million.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Javelin Missile<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is an <\/span><b>American-made, man-portable, anti-tank guided missile.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is developed and <\/span><b>produced jointly by <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">American defence majors <\/span><b>Raytheon and Lockheed Martin.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It was <\/span><b>designed to defeat heavily armored vehicles <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">such as <\/span><b>main battle tanks a<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">nd lighter-skinned military vehicles.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The weapon also has capability against <\/span><b>other target types<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> like <\/span><b>fortifications, bunkers, and helicopters.<\/b><\/li>\n<li <\/b><b>Features<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It has an <\/span><b>effective range of 2.5 km,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> with <\/span><b>newer models reportedly capable of<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> reaching up to <\/span><b>4 kilometers.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Weight: 5.11 kg<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It can be <\/span><b>employed from confined spaces<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> due to its <\/span><b>soft-launch mechanism.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It uses <\/span><b>\u201cfire-and-forget\u201d technology<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to guide itself to the target without external commands or target designation.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Its<\/span><b> imaging-infrared seeker enables independent homing once fired<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><b>allowing operators to take cover immediately.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The missile can engage targets using <\/span><b>either a direct or top-attack mode,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> with the <\/span><b>latter designed to exploit vulnerabilities in the thinner armor on the tops of tanks.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Its <\/span><b>tandem high-explosive anti-tank (HEAT) warhead <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">is designed to defeat explosive reactive armour, which is increasingly common on contemporary main battle tanks.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>What is the Excalibur Projectile?<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is a <\/span><b>GPS-guided artillery shell fired from large guns like howitzers.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It was developed in a collaborative <\/span><b>effort between the U.S. Army Research Laboratory <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(ARL) and the United States Army Armament Research, Development and Engineering Center (ARDEC).\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>India already uses the Excalibur<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> artillery ammunition<\/span><b> in its <a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/m777-ultra-light-howitzer\/\" target=\"_blank\">M-777 Howitzer<\/a> guns.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Excaliburs are capable of <\/span><b>engaging targets beyond the reach of conventional artillery <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">even in challenging terrains.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">They are capable of <\/span><b>striking within two metres of the target \u201cregardless of range.\u201d<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This weapon system also <\/span><b>extends the reach of 39-calibre artillery to 40 kilometres,<\/b> <b>52-calibre artillery to 50 kilometres, and 58-calibre artillery to 70 kilometres<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>guided shells<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> are capable of <\/span><b>causing little to no collateral damage <\/b><span style=\"font-weight:
