{"id":85470,"date":"2026-02-02T12:50:29","date_gmt":"2026-02-02T07:20:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=85470"},"modified":"2026-02-02T16:50:21","modified_gmt":"2026-02-02T11:20:21","slug":"biopharma-shakti","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/biopharma-shakti\/","title":{"rendered":"Biopharma SHAKTI"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>Biopharma SHAKTI Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Recently, the Union Minister for Finance announced the launch of Biopharma Shakti initiative in budget 2026-27.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Biopharma SHAKTI<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2018Biopharma SHAKTI (<\/span><b>Strategy for Healthcare Advancement through Knowledge, Technology &amp; Innovation)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2019 is designed to develop India into a global <\/span><b>biopharmaceutical manufacturing hub.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This will build the ecosystem for <\/span><b>domestic production of biologics and biosimilars.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It will include a <\/span><b>Biopharma-focused network<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> with 3 new <\/span><b>National Institutes of Pharmaceutical Education and Research<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (NIPER) and upgrading 7 existing ones.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It will also create a network of over <\/span><b>1000 accredited India Clinical Trials sites.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Financial Outlay &amp; Time Period:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u20b910,000 crore over the <\/span><b>next five years<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This initiative will catalyse investments in <\/span><b>advanced biomanufacturing infrastructure,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> promote innovation and enhance India\u2019s capabilities in high-value, next-generation therapies.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It will focus on building a <\/span><b>biopharma-centric innovation and manufacturing network<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, responding to India&#8217;s rapidly changing disease profile marked by a rising burden of non-communicable diseases such as diabetes, cancer and autoimmune disorders.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><b>What is Biologics?<\/b><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Biologics are <\/span><b>complex medicines<\/b> <b>derived from living organisms.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Their complex manufacturing processes <\/span><b>have traditionally limited their availability<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, primarily serving high-income countries.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><b>What are Biosimilars?<\/b><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These are highly <\/span><b>similar versions of biologic medicines<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, developed through comprehensive analytical studies and rigorous preclinical and clinical trials to <\/span><b>ensure therapeutic equivalence.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These products offer equally effective and safe alternatives thereby increasing market competition and reducing the costs of biologic therapies.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Source: <\/b><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pib.gov.in\/PressReleasePage.aspx?PRID=2221492&amp;reg=3&amp;lang=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">PIB<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Biopharma SHAKTI is designed to develop India into a global biopharmaceutical manufacturing hub.
