It became the <\/span><b>world\u2019s first Black republic <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">in 1804 after a successful slave revolt led by Toussaint Louverture and Jean-Jacques Dessalines.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is also the <\/span><b>first country to abolish slavery through a revolution.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><strong>Haiti Crisis<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Haiti is facing one of the world\u2019s most severe humanitarian crises marked by political vacuum, <\/span><b>gang violence<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, food insecurity and crippling economy.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Haiti has <\/span><b>no elected government <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">since the assassination of President Jovenel Mo\u00efse in 2021.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>Transitional Presidential Council<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, a temporary body constituted by the Council of Ministers to exercise the powers and duties of the president of Haiti until an elected president takes office or 7 February 2026, whichever comes first.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Armed gangs <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">control nearly all of Port-au-Prince, Haiti\u2019s capital city and victimize communities through killings, extortion and kidnappings.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In October 2025, the United Nations authorized a new<\/span><b> \u201cgang suppression force&#8221;<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in an effort to improve Haiti\u2019s security crisis.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Major Overseas Evacuation &amp;
