From its origin at the mouth of the Barak, the Kushiyara flows westward f<\/span><b>orming the boundary between Assam, India, and the Sylhet District of Bangladesh.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> In 2022 India and Bangladesh signed an interim water sharing pact with regard to the Kushiyara River.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Kushiyara River Treaty<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>Kushiyara River Treaty<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> was signed in September <\/span><b>2022<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to establish a framework for sharing water from the Kushiyara River.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is the <\/span><b>first water sharing agreement between India and Bangladesh since the landmark Ganga Water Treaty, 1996.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The agreement aims <\/span><b>to address seasonal water shortages and flooding issues in both lower Assam (India) and Sylhet (Bangladesh).<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Under this treaty, Bangladesh can withdraw <\/span><b>153 cusecs <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(cubic feet per second) of water from the Kushiyara out of the approximately 2,500 cusecs of water.
