{"id":8577,"date":"2026-02-26T12:43:50","date_gmt":"2026-02-26T07:13:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=8577"},"modified":"2026-02-27T14:01:04","modified_gmt":"2026-02-27T08:31:04","slug":"what-is-the-epstein-barr-virus-ebv","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/what-is-the-epstein-barr-virus-ebv\/","title":{"rendered":"Epstein &#8211; Barr virus"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>Epstein &#8211; Barr virus\u00a0<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Researchers are progressing towards a vaccine against Epstein-Barr virus (EBV), which affects 95% of the global population and is linked to multiple serious diseases.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Epstein &#8211; Barr virus<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is a common and <\/span><b>highly contagious infection.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Transmission:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> It spreads through <\/span><b>bodily fluids, especially saliva.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">EBV is a type of <\/span><b>herpesvirus called herpesvirus 4.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It has been found to be widely present in the human population.<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Nearly 95% of the global population is infected with Epstein-Barr virus, with some populations at higher risk for serious complications if the virus becomes activated.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Most cases of Epstein-Barr virus affect <\/span><b>children, teenagers and young adults<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, but anyone can get the virus.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It <\/span><b>usually does not cause any harm,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> but the virus gets reactivated inside the body in some unusual conditions like immunological stress or immunocompetence.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This may further lead to various complications like a type of <\/span><b>blood cancer called Burkitt\u2019s lymphoma,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> stomach cancer, multiple sclerosis.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Symptoms: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sore throat and throat inflammation, Fatigue or feeling extremely tired, Fever,<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Swollen lymph nodes, Rashes on your skin, Enlarged spleen and liver.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Treatment: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There is <\/span><b>no specific treatment for EBV<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.
