Himank<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is a project of the <\/span><b>Border Roads Organization (BRO) in the Ladakh region<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of India, which <\/span><b>started in 1985.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Objective<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: <\/span><b>Development of road communication in the Ladakh region.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>&#8220;Mountain Tamers&#8221; as they are called<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, have been instrumental in <\/span><b>creating and maintaining roads and airfields<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in the most inhospitable terrain and are presently the custodians of approx. 2216.24 km of roads <\/span><b>in Ladakh.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The entire area of responsibility of the project falls in <\/span><b>high altitude<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> with <\/span><b>challenging working conditions and a limited working season.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Project ensures the maintenance of <\/span><b>communication and access to strategic areas close to<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> the Line of Actual Control <\/span><b>(LAC) with China.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is known for<\/span><b> building some of the most motorable roads in the highlands of the world <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">through <\/span><b>Khardung La, Tanglang La, Chang La, and Mig La passes.<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">At 19,400 ft, <\/span><b>Mig La Pass<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is the<\/span><b> highest motorable road in the world.<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Key Facts about Border Roads Organization (BRO)<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is a <\/span><b>road construction executive force<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in India that provides <\/span><b>support to the Indian Armed Forces.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">BRO was entirely brought <\/span><b>under <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the <\/span><b>Ministry of Defence<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in 2015.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Establishment<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: It was formed on 7 May <\/span><b>1960 <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">to <\/span><b>secure India\u2019s borders<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><b>develop infrastructure<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in <\/span><b>remote areas of the north and northeastern states<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of the country.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It <\/span><b>develops and maintains road networks in India\u2019s border areas and friendly neighboring countries.<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This includes infrastructure operations in <\/span><b>19 states and three union territories <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(including Andaman and Nicobar Islands) and neighboring countries such as <\/span><b>Afghanistan, Bhutan, Myanmar, Tajikistan, and Sri Lanka.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">BRO specialises in constructing and maintaining Roads, Bridges, Tunnels, Airfields and Marine Works across some of the world\u2019s most challenging terrains.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The BRO also has an <\/span><b>operational role during national emergencies <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and the outbreak of hostilities, when it provides <\/span><b>direct support to the Army in the maintenance of roads<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in the forward zones and executes other functions specified by the government.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It also provides the workforce for the rehabilitation of certain forward airfields of the Indian Air Force during operations.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">BRO is also<\/span><b> included in the Order of Battle of the Armed Forces<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, ensuring their support at any time.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In order to ensure coordination and expeditious execution of projects, the Government of India set up the<\/span><b> Border Roads Development Board (BRDB)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> with the <\/span><b>Prime Minister as Chairman<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of the Board and the
