It is the most <\/span><b>seismically and volcanically active region<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> on Earth, accounting for about <\/span><b>75% of the world\u2019s active volcanoes and nearly 90% of global earthquakes.\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<h2><b>Pacific Ring Of Fire Geographical Extent<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Pacific Ring of Fire encircles the <a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/pacific-ocean\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Pacific Ocean<\/strong><\/a>, stretching from New Zealand, along Indonesia, Japan, Philippines, and then along the Rockies and Andes.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Antarctica, Bolivia, Chile, Ecuador, Peru, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Mexico, the United States, Canada, Russia, Japan, Philippines, Australia, Papua New Guinea, Indonesia, New Zealand, and are among the major regions situated along the Ring of Fire.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Pacific Ring of Fire Formation<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Pacific Ring of Fire was formed mainly due to <\/span><b>convergent plate boundaries where the denser oceanic plate subducts the lighter continental plate.\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Major Oceanic Plates involved<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> are Pacific Plate (main plate), Nazca Plate, Cocos Plate, Philippine Sea Plate, Juan de Fuca Plate.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Major Continental Plates involved<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> are North American Plate, South American Plate, Eurasian Plate, Indo-Australian Plate, Antarctic Plate.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Oceanic Pacific plate is subducting beneath the Indo-Australian, Eurasian, North and South American, and Antarctic plates. As the oceanic plate goes deeper, it melts due to heat, significantly increasing the amount of magma. The increased magma pressure leads to <\/span><b>violent volcanic eruptions<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> as magma finds its way through the weakest parts of the mountain, typically the top.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The zone of subduction is known as the <\/span><b>Benioff zone<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, which forms <\/span><b>trenches<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (ocean deeps) \u2013 the deepest points on Earth.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Continuous plate movement causes friction and stress accumulation along plate boundaries.
