{"id":8597,"date":"2023-04-16T05:03:45","date_gmt":"2023-04-15T23:33:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=8597"},"modified":"2025-03-29T03:57:56","modified_gmt":"2025-03-28T22:27:56","slug":"meeting-of-agricultural-chief-scientists-macs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/meeting-of-agricultural-chief-scientists-macs\/","title":{"rendered":"Meeting of Agricultural Chief Scientists (MACS)"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>About Meeting of Agricultural Chief Scientists:\u00a0<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>The first meet of MACS was held in <strong>Mexico in 2012.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>The members of the MACS include <strong>ministries or governmental bodies<\/strong> responsible for agricultural research in the <strong>respective G20 states<\/strong> as well as leading research institutions which strategically advise these decision-makers.<\/li>\n<li><strong>The theme of the 2023 meeting:<\/strong> Sustainable Agriculture and Food Systems for Healthy People and Planet.<\/li>\n<li>The MACS will discuss <strong>food and nutrition security<\/strong>, resilience to climate change, One Health approaches, digital agriculture, and public-private partnerships for research, education and extension.<\/li>\n<li>The meeting will also feature the <strong>MAHARISHI Initiative i.e., Millets And OtHer Ancient Grains International ReSearcH Initiative.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>This International Initiative will focus on research and awareness about agro-biodiversity, food security, and nutrition in line with the International Year of Millets 2023.<\/li>\n<li>There are <strong>four priority<\/strong> areas on which focused discussion will take place.\u00a0\u00a0\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Food Security and Nutrition<\/strong> &#8211; the role of Frontiers in Science and Technology.<\/li>\n<li>Building resilience and sustainable agriculture through approaches of climate resilient agriculture and One Health.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Digitalization<\/strong> for Agricultural Transformation.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Public-Private Partnerships<\/strong> for Research and Development\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1) What are Millets?<\/h3>\n<p>Millets are a group of small-seeded grasses that are cultivated as a cereal crop in various parts of the world.
