{"id":8640,"date":"2023-04-15T04:11:21","date_gmt":"2023-04-14T22:41:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=8640"},"modified":"2025-03-29T04:13:35","modified_gmt":"2025-03-28T22:43:35","slug":"uttaramerur-inscription","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/uttaramerur-inscription\/","title":{"rendered":"Uttaramerur Inscription"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>Why in news?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>While Uttaramerur has multiple inscriptions spanning centuries, the most famous one being referred to by the Prime Minister is from the reign of <strong>About the inscription:<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>The famous inscription from Parantaka I\u2019s reign is found on the walls of the <strong>Vaikunda Perumal Temple.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>The inscription gives details of <strong>the functioning of the local Sabha<\/strong>, i.e., the village assembly.<\/li>\n<li>A Sabha was an <strong>assembly exclusively of brahmans<\/strong> and had specialised committees tasked with different things.<\/li>\n<li>This gave details about <strong>how members were selected<\/strong>, <strong>the required qualifications<\/strong>, their roles and responsibilities, and even the circumstances in which they could be removed.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Required qualifications:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>It includes ownership of a certain <strong>amount of land<\/strong>, having a house, being between the age of 35 and 70 and <strong>\u201cknowing mantras and Brahmanas<\/strong>\u201d (from the Vedic corpus).<\/li>\n<li>An exception can be made on land ownership if the person has learnt at least \u201c<strong>one Veda and four Bhashyas<\/strong>\u201d. One must also be \u201cwell-versed in business\u201d and \u201cvirtuous\u201d.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>What was the Selection procedure to the Sabha?<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>It says there <strong>were 30 wards<\/strong>.
