Located at the crossroads of four countries, the Altai region holds strategic significance in terms of border management, resource sharing, and regional cooperation in Central Asia.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Altai Mountains Location<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Altai mountains are located in <\/span><b>Russia, Mongolia, Kazakhstan and a small part in north-western China.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It lies between the Sayan Mountains to the north and the Gobi Desert to the south.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Altai Mountains Geology<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Altai Mountains are ancient <\/span><b>fold mountains, formed primarily during the Paleozoic era.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">They are composed mainly of igneous and metamorphic rocks and are <\/span><b>rich in minerals such as gold, copper, and other metals.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Despite being geologically old, parts of the region still <\/span><b>experience minor tectonic activity.<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Altai Mountains Relief and Peaks<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The mountains are rugged and high, with steep slopes and deep valleys.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The highest peak is <\/span><b>Mount Belukha <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(about 4,506 metres). It is located in Russia and is covered with permanent snow and glaciers.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Glaciers at higher elevations, make Altai mountains an important source of freshwater.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Altai Mountains Climatic Significance<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Altai Mountains play a crucial role in shaping the climate of Central Asia and adjoining regions.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Altai act as a <\/span><b>natural barrier between the cold Siberian region in the north and the arid Central Asian plains in the south<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. They block the movement of cold air masses and influence regional temperature patterns.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Moist air masses from the west and northwest rise along the mountain slopes. Major rivers such as the <\/span><b>Ob, Irtysh, Yenisei, and Katun originate from this region.<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It also has <\/span><b>numerous glacial and tectonic lakes<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. These lakes are important for regional ecology, freshwater supply, and tourism.
