{"id":86855,"date":"2026-02-09T13:43:18","date_gmt":"2026-02-09T08:13:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=86855"},"modified":"2026-02-09T15:38:49","modified_gmt":"2026-02-09T10:08:49","slug":"kordofan-region","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/kordofan-region\/","title":{"rendered":"Kordofan Region"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>Kordofan Region Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A drone attack by Sudan\u2019s Rapid Support Forces struck a vehicle carrying displaced families near Rahad in North Kordofan, killing at least 24 people, including eight children and two infants. <\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Kordofan Region<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is a region constituting the <\/span><b>central and southern area of Sudan.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It lies <\/span><b>between <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the<\/span><b><a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/darfur-region\/\" target=\"_blank\"> Darfur region<\/a> on the west<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and the<\/span><b> valley of the White Nile River on the east.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It covers an area of about 390,000 sq.km.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The region is divided into three federal states: <\/span><b>North Kordofan (capital: El Obeid), South Kordofan (capital: Kadugli)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and <\/span><b>West Kordofan (capital: Al Fula).<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>northern part<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of the region is <\/span><b>desert <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and has sandy soils and little physiographic relief.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There is some acacia scrub, desert grass, and thorny shrub; the landscape becomes increasingly more open and barren toward the north.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The<\/span><b> southern section<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of Kordofan is a <\/span><b>level or gently undulating clay plain<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, with the <\/span><b>scattered granitic Nuba Mountains<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> rising in the east to an elevation of about 900 metres.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Traditionally <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the area is <\/span><b>known for the production of gum arabic<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.
