He <\/span><b>ascended the throne<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in <\/span><b>1847<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He was regarded as being a <\/span><b>kind, generous, and compassionate<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> ruler, as well as a <\/span><b>good administrator<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, who took keen interest in the affairs of the state.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He went on to <\/span><b>rule for nine years till<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> his <\/span><b>kingdom was annexed by the British in 1856, citing \u201cmisgovernance.\u201d.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">His deposition and the annexation of Awadh became <\/span><b>one of the major causes of the <a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/upsc-exam\/revolt-of-1857\/\" target=\"_blank\">Revolt of 1857<\/a>.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He <\/span><b>lived out the rest of his life<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> at Garden Reach in Metiabruz, then a suburb of <\/span><b>Kolkata<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">His time spent as Nawab is perfused with generosity and <\/span><b>admiration for artistic valor.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He was a man of many talents, a <\/span><b>poet, playwright, dancer, and profound patron of arts.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">His <\/span><b>works <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">included <\/span><b>numerous poems, prose, ragas,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> playwrights, and <\/span><b>ghazals<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> under his <\/span><b>pen name of \u2018Qaisar\u2019.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>Ishqnamah (Book of Love<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">) is a youthful <\/span><b>autobiography written in Urdu<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> verse by <\/span><b>Wajid Ali Shah.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He is also credited for <\/span><b>contributing to the revival of<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> the Indian dance form <\/span><b>Kathak<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He is renowned for his<\/span><b> secular approach<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and his <\/span><b>interest in Hindu culture.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He was also greatly <\/span><b>interested in architecture<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. He <\/span><b>started building<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> the <\/span><b>Qaiser bagh palace complex<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> as soon as he came to the throne.
