They are known for their distinct culture, traditional practices and contribution to the social and cultural life of Northeast India.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Angami Tribe<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Angami Tribe has a distinct cultural identity and was among the <\/span><b>first Naga tribes to come under British rule.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Traditionally, each Angami village functioned as a self-sufficient <\/span><b>\u201cvillage state,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201d showing strong community organization and autonomy.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">They are known for <\/span><b>terrace wet rice cultivation, the Sekrenyi festiva<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">l and the tradition of <\/span><b>Feasts of Merit<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Angami society is mainly <\/span><b>patriarchal<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> but gives social importance to women.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">They are recognized as a <\/span><b>Scheduled Tribe under the <a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/upsc-exam\/fifth-schedule\/\" target=\"_blank\">Fifth Schedule<\/a><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of the <a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/upsc-exam\/indian-constitution\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Indian Constitution<\/strong><\/a>. They speak the <\/span><b>Angami language, also known as Tenyidie<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and do not have a traditional script of their own.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Majority of them are<\/span><b> Christian (98%)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and a small number still follow <\/span><b>Animism (around 0.71%)<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In terms of food, a popular <\/span><b>Angami dish is Galho<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, which is made from rice mixed with Himalayan knotweed, vegetables and meat such as pork or beef.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The tribe is divided into four main groups-<\/span><b>Khonoma, Kohima, Viswema, and Chakroma<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, mainly identified by their geographical areas.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Angami Tribe Culture<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Angami tribe of Nagaland is especially known for its <\/span><b>strong culture of honesty<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, which is considered their <\/span><b>most important social value and a key part of their identity.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Though spread across many villages with slight cultural differences, all Angami villages are united by this common value of honesty.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In daily life, honesty is clearly seen, houses are often kept unlocked and people can leave their goods on the roadside without fear of theft.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Their <\/span><b>moral code called \u201ckeny\u00fc\u201d (taboo) guides behavior.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Anything considered wrong or sinful is avoided, as it is believed to displease God.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This strong moral system promotes unity, discipline and social harmony within Angami society.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Angami Tribe Festival<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Sekrenyi is a ten-day festival of the Angami tribe<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, celebrated in February after the harvest. The name means<\/span><b> \u201cfestival of purification or sanctification.\u201d<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It begins with rituals related to <\/span><b>cleansing and purity<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. People bathe at the village well and special ceremonies are performed to remove misfortune and seek blessings.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A rooster is sacrificed as part of traditional rituals and elders observe signs considered good omens.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The festival includes singing, feasting, rice beer and community gatherings.
