to 30 inscriptions in Tamil Brahmi, Prakrit and Sanskrit at tombs in the Valley of the Kings in Egypt.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Valley of the Kings<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It was the <\/span><b>burial site<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of dozens of <\/span><b>pharaohs, or kings, of ancient Egypt.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The valley lies in the <\/span><b>southern half of Egypt<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, just <\/span><b>west of the Nile<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> River.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It was <\/span><b>part of<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> the <\/span><b>ancient city of Thebes.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Most of the <\/span><b>pharaohs <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">of the<\/span><b> 18th, 19th, and 20th dynasties<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> were buried in the Valley of the Kings.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These pharaohs <\/span><b>ruled from 1539 to 1077 BC<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, during the period of Egyptian history known as the <\/span><b>New Kingdom.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>By that time<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> the pharaohs had <\/span><b>stopped building pyramids<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to serve as their tombs.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Not only pharaohs were buried in the Valley of the Kings. <\/span><b>Several queens, a few high-ranking officials, and some royal children <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">were <\/span><b>also laid to rest there.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>tomb <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">built for the <\/span><b>many sons of Ramses II<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is the<\/span><b> largest and most complex<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in the valley.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The tombs in the Valley of the Kings were<\/span><b> carved into rocky hillsides<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> with <\/span><b>only a doorway marking their location.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The<\/span><b> interior varied<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> from tomb to tomb, but most consisted of a series of descending corridors with multiple openings leading to chambers, or rooms.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Deep underground, one corridor ended at the burial chamber.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> It held a <\/span><b>sarcophagus<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, or stone coffin, in which the pharaoh\u2019s mummy was laid.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>burial chamber<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> also <\/span><b>included furniture, clothing, jewelry, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and other items that it was believed the pharaoh would need in the afterlife.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Virtually all the tombs<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in the valley<\/span><b> were cleared out in antiquity.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Some had been <\/span><b>partially robbed during the New Kingdom<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, but all were systematically <\/span><b>denuded of their contents in the 21st dynasty,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in an effort <\/span><b>to protect the royal mummies<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and to <\/span><b>recycle the rich funerary goods back into the royal treasury.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>only tomb to remain mostly intact<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> was that of <\/span><b>Tutankhamun <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(reigned 1333\u201324 BC).<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In 1979 UNESCO made the Valley of the Kings part of the <\/span><b>World Heritage site<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of ancient Thebes.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Source: <\/b><strong><a
