{"id":87434,"date":"2026-02-12T14:28:04","date_gmt":"2026-02-12T08:58:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=87434"},"modified":"2026-02-12T15:26:59","modified_gmt":"2026-02-12T09:56:59","slug":"idukki-hydroelectric-project","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/idukki-hydroelectric-project\/","title":{"rendered":"Idukki Hydroelectric Project"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>Idukki Hydroelectric Project Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As the Idukki hydroelectric project, Kerala\u2019s largest hydel power project, marks a historic 50-year milestone, the Moolamattom power plant has recorded a total generation of 115,852.672 million units (MU) over the past five decades.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Idukki Hydroelectric Project<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is built across the <\/span><b>Periyar River<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in the Idukki district of <\/span><b>Kerala<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is the <\/span><b>largest hydroelectric project in Kerala.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The installed capacity of this project is <\/span><b>780 MW.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>The powerhouse at Moolamattom is the <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">longest underground power station in India, and the <\/span><b>pressure shaft is the largest in the country.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The powerhouse has six generators of 130 MW capacity each.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The project was completed with <\/span><b>aid from the Government of Canada,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and the technical consultancy was M\/s Surveyor, Nenniger and Chenevert.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The project was <\/span><b>dedicated <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">to the nation on 12th February <\/span><b>1976<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There are <\/span><b>three dams associated<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> with this project.
