{"id":87570,"date":"2026-02-13T13:35:30","date_gmt":"2026-02-13T08:05:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=87570"},"modified":"2026-02-13T14:50:10","modified_gmt":"2026-02-13T09:20:10","slug":"sangtam-community","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/sangtam-community\/","title":{"rendered":"Sangtam Community"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>Sangtam Community Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Recently,<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the apex body of Nagaland\u2019s Sangtam community has passed a resolution to protect pangolins.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Sangtam Community<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>Sangtam tribe<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is one of the sixteen <\/span><b>major tribes of Nagaland.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">They are one of the <\/span><b>major Naga ethnic groups<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in <\/span><b>Northeast India.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">They are concentrated in the Kiphire and Tuensang districts <\/span><b>of Nagaland, bordering Myanmar.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Socio-Political Life of the Sangtams<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><b>Clans:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> There are six major clans amongst the Sangtams- Dhongr\u00fc, Jingr\u00fc, Langtidhongr\u00fc\/ Langkidhongr\u00fc, Mungzar\u00fc, Anar\u00fc\/Yingphidhongr\u00fc and Rudidhongr\u00fc clans.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Language:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> The common dialect of the Sangtams is known as <\/span><b>Sangtamyu<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> which is spoken by around 90% of the population.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Sangtam people <\/span><b>traditionally practice <a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/shifting-cultivation\/\" target=\"_blank\">jhum cultivation<\/a><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (shifting agriculture), which remains central to their livelihood.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">They follow <\/span><b>a patriarchal system of lineage<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and inheritance as well.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Festivals:<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li><b>Mongmong: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The predominant theme of the <\/span><b>festival is the worship of the God<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of the house and the three cooking stones in the fireplace.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Tsohsuh: It is commonly <\/span><b>known as \u2018vi thung\u2019 festival and is celebrated<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> during the spring season in the month of March.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>H\u00fcNAPUNGBI:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> It is celebrated <\/span><b>especially for children.<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Source: <\/b><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thehindu.com\/news\/national\/nagaland\/nagaland-tribe-resolves-to-protect-pangolins\/article70624748.ece\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">TH<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Sangtam Community is one of the sixteen major tribes of Nagaland.
