The word Sadbhavana means <\/span><b>\u201cgoodwill.\u201d<\/b><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Operation Sadbhavana<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Operation Sadbhavana (meaning Goodwill) is a special initiative by the <\/span><b>Indian Army<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in Jammu &amp; Kashmir and Ladakh <\/span><b>to support people affected by terrorism and difficult <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">conditions. Its main aim is to <\/span><b>help local communities <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">through welfare and development activities.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In Ladakh, the Army runs<\/span><b> seven Army Goodwill Schools (AGS)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to provide quality education to children in remote areas. Currently, over 2,200 students study in these schools.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Indian Army also undertakes other projects under Operation Sadbhavana, including:<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Building and improving infrastructure<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Organizing education tours and skill development programs<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Supporting healthcare, sports, <a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/women-empowerment\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>women empowerment<\/strong><\/a>, employment and environmental projects<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Promoting national integration and community development<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For the financial year <\/span><b>2022-23, around \u20b98.82 crore were allocated for Ladakh to implement these activities.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Projects are carefully chosen <\/span><b>based on local needs<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and coordinated with the civil administration to avoid duplication.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Under Operation Sadbhavana, <\/span><b>women and girls<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in remote areas of Ladakh were <\/span><b>empowered through vocational and skill training<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> such as weaving, wool work, apricot oil extraction, and yak cheese making and initiatives like <\/span><b>\u2018Kargil Ignited Minds\u2019<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> supported girls\u2019 education and preparation for competitive exams, promoting skill development and gender empowerment.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Operation Sadbhavana focused on infrastructure, education, community development, women and youth empowerment and health, while also working to counter anti-India propaganda in Kashmir.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As part of Operation Sadbhavana, the Indian Army organized a National Integration Tour on 9 November 2025 for students and teachers from border districts of Rajouri and Poonch. The tour exposed them to India\u2019s progress in education and technology and strengthened their bond with the nation. This initiative reflects the Army\u2019s role in promoting unity, youth development, and nation-building in remote areas.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Operation Sadbhavana Need<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Operation Sadbhavana was launched to support local communities in Jammu &amp; Kashmir and reduce the influence of terrorist groups. These groups tried to create fear, target public services and turn people against the government, making locals vulnerable to recruitment into terrorism.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The main goal of the project was <\/span><b>to integrate the local population into the national mainstream <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and provide them with education, development, and livelihood support. It also aimed to <\/span><b>counter proxy wars<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, where terrorist groups, supported by Pakistan through funding and arms, carried out attacks in the region.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Adoption of Topa Pir Village<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Indian Army adopted <\/span><b>Topa Pir village in Poonch district, Jammu and Kashmir<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> as part of a <\/span><b>model village initiative<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to improve community welfare and development.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The village came into the spotlight after a controversial incident in which three civilians reportedly died due to alleged mistreatment by the Army.
