They are geographically, ecologically, and socio-economically significant.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><strong>Nallamala Hills Location and Extent<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>The Nallamala Hills stretch primarily across the states of <b>Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li>They run in a <b>north-south direction<\/b>, parallel to the eastern coast of India.<\/li>\n<li>The hills form part of the larger <a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/eastern-ghats\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Eastern Ghats<\/strong><\/a> mountain system, which is discontinuous in nature.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><strong>Nallamala Hills Geology<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>The Nallamala hills are composed mainly of <b>Archaean rocks<\/b>, including quartzite and slate.<\/li>\n<li>They are part of the <b>Cuddapah Basin<\/b>, an important geological formation in southern India.<\/li>\n<li>The terrain is rugged with <b>steep slopes and deep valleys.<\/b><\/li>\n<li>Average elevation ranges from 500 to 900 meters, with some peaks rising above 1,000 meters.<\/li>\n<li>The region is rich in mineral deposits such as <b>Limestone, Barytes and Uranium.<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><strong>Nallamala Rivers and Drainage<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>The Krishna River cuts across the Nallamala Hills at the famous Srisailam gorge.<\/li>\n<li>Important tributaries flowing through hills include Tungabhadra, Bhavanasi and Kunderu.<\/li>\n<li>The river valleys create deep gorges and scenic landscapes.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><strong>Nallamala Hills Ecology\u00a0<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>The Nallamala region is covered with tropical dry deciduous forests and is known for rich biodiversity.<\/li>\n<li>Major Protected Areas include Nagarjunsagar-Srisailam Tiger Reserve.
