These industries are not limited to art or entertainment; they are technology-driven and globally tradeable sectors.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Creative Industries include Media and entertainment, Animation and visual effects (VFX), Gaming, Live cultural events and entertainment, Digital content platforms, Script, music, and audio-visual production. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These industries generate value from ideas, stories, designs, and digital innovation. Because much of their output can be distributed online, they can reach global markets quickly and at scale.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Global Rise of the Creative Economy<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Across the world, creative industries have moved from the margins to the mainstream of economic activity.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In many countries, they contribute between 0.5 percent and over 7 percent of GDP.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Live entertainment and cultural industries also create strong linkages with tourism, hospitality, and urban services.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cities and countries that invest in creative <a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/upsc-exam\/ecosystem\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>ecosystems<\/strong><\/a> improve their global image, attract investment, and strengthen partnerships.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Thus, creativity today is not just cultural expression; it is an economic strategy.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>India\u2019s Creative Economy<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">India\u2019s creative economy is rapidly expanding and becoming a major pillar of growth.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The media and entertainment sector was valued at approximately \u20b92.5 trillion in 2024.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Digital media accounts for around one-third of total sector revenues, reshaping how content is produced and distributed.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">High-growth segments include Animation and VFX (around \u20b9103 billion), Gaming (around \u20b9232 billion), Live entertainment (over \u20b9100 billion).<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The sector supports more than 10 million livelihoods directly and indirectly.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Annual output stands at nearly \u20b93 lakh crore.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This growth shows that creativity is no longer a side activity. It is becoming a structured, organised, and scalable economic capability.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Creative Industries as Growth Engines<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Creative industries are called growth engines because of following benefits:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Employment Generation<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Creative industries create large numbers of jobs because they depend mainly on skills and talent. They provide work to artists, technicians, coders, designers, performers, and entrepreneurs.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">At the same time, they also create indirect employment in areas such as tourism, event management, digital services, and urban businesses.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With a large young population, India can use these industries to generate jobs on a wide scale.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Export and Global Reach<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Digital platforms make it easier for Indian creative products to reach international audiences. Scripts, music, games, and visual effects services can be exported to global markets. This not only increases foreign exchange earnings but also strengthens India\u2019s position in the global creative economy.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Urban and Tourism Linkages<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Live entertainment, festivals, and cultural events attract visitors and make cities more vibrant. Creative hubs encourage growth in hospitality, transport, retail, and other local services. In this way, the creative economy supports development at both the national and regional levels.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Soft Power and Global Visibility<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Orange Economy helps transform India\u2019s cultural heritage and creative talent into economic opportunity and global influence. By using modern platforms, Indian stories, art, and skills can reach audiences across the world, improving India\u2019s image and cultural presence internationally.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Creative industries therefore enhance both economic strength and diplomatic presence.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Government Initiatives for Creative Industries<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Government has started following initiatives:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The government has introduced a <\/span><b>national roadmap for the AVGC-XR sector<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, focusing on skill development, creation of original intellectual property, industry collaboration, and access to global markets.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>Indian Institute of Creative Technologies (IICT)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> has been established as a national centre of excellence to provide industry-aligned training, advanced infrastructure, and startup incubation support.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To build a long-term talent pipeline, <\/span><b>AVGC Content Creator Labs are proposed<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in 15,000 secondary schools and 500 colleges across the country.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>World Audio Visual and Entertainment Summit (WAVES)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> has been organised as a global platform to bring together creators, startups, investors, and policymakers for partnerships and deal-making.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>WaveX <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">has been launched to support startup innovation through incubation, mentorship, and investor engagement.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>WAVES Bazaar<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> has been created as a dedicated marketplace for scripts, music, comics, and audio-visual rights to facilitate co-production and cross-border collaborations.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>Create in India Challenge<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> aims to identify emerging creative talent and connect them with global platforms and opportunities.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The government is also encouraging the development of <\/span><b>regional creative hubs<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> across cities to expand opportunities beyond a few metropolitan centres.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Overall, policy efforts are focused on strengthening skills, institutions, platforms, and global integration to make creative industries a major source of employment and economic growth.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>India\u2019s Creative Industry Challenges<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There is a gap between what students learn in educational institutions and the skills required by the creative industry.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">India still produces limited original intellectual property compared to major global creative economies.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Regulations related to media, gaming, and digital content are spread across different authorities, creating complexity.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Indian creative style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Strengthen creative education and develop skill-training pipelines aligned with industry requirements.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Encourage the creation and promotion of original Indian intellectual property.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Provide tax incentives, funding support, and easier credit access for creative startups.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Build
