{"id":90009,"date":"2026-02-26T13:01:20","date_gmt":"2026-02-26T07:31:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=90009"},"modified":"2026-02-27T14:00:54","modified_gmt":"2026-02-27T08:30:54","slug":"staphylococcus-aureus","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/staphylococcus-aureus\/","title":{"rendered":"Staphylococcus Aureus"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>Staphylococcus Aureus Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">An institute of the Department of Science and Technology (DST) based in North East India has synthesised a novel biosurfactant which has been found to act effectively against bacterium Staphylococcus aureus.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Staphylococcus Aureus<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is a type of <\/span><b>bacteria <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">belonging to the family Staphylococcaceae.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It stains Gram positive and is non-moving small round shaped or non-motile cocci.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is found in grape-like (staphylo-) clusters.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It may occur <\/span><b>commonly in the environment.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">S. aureus was <\/span><b>discovered in Aberdeen<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, Scotland in 1880 by the surgeon <\/span><b>Sir Alexander Ogston <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">in pus from surgical abscesses.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It affects all known <\/span><b>mammalian species, including humans.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Further due to its ability to affect a wide range of species, S. aureus can be readily transmitted <\/span><b>from one species to another.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (This includes transmission between humans and animals.)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>It causes<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><b>Minor skin infections,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> such as pimples, impetigo etc.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It <\/span><b>may cause boils<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (furuncles), cellulitis folliculitis, carbuncles<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is the cause of <\/span><b>scalded skin syndrome<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and abscesses<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It may lead to <\/span><b>lung infections<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> or pneumonia<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Treatment:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Healthcare providers can treat most staph <\/span><b>infections with antibiotics.<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Transmission of Staphylococcus Aureus<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">S. aureus is transmitted <\/span><b>through air droplets or aerosol<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.
