Satellite communication helps in providing connectivity in remote areas, disaster management, navigation, defence communication, and broadcasting services. With the growing use of space technology, cyber security of space infrastructure has also become necessary. In this context, the <\/span><b>Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) in collaboration with the Satcom Industry Association of India (SIA-India) has released space cyber security guidelines in 2026.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> The framework was unveiled during the <\/span><b>DefSat Conference &amp; Expo 2026 in New Delhi. <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The initiative reflects India\u2019s growing focus on protecting its space ecosystem from evolving cyber threats.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Need for Space Cyber Security<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Space <a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/upsc-exam\/cyber-security\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>cybersecurity<\/strong><\/a> is important because satellite communication systems support connectivity, disaster management, defence communication, navigation, and broadcasting services in India. Increasing dependence on space-based technology has made critical infrastructure such as satellites, ground stations, and communication networks vulnerable to cyber threats.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cyber attacks like signal <\/span><b>jamming, spoofing, and data manipulation<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> can disrupt essential national and strategic services. Protecting space assets is <\/span><b>necessary to maintain India\u2019s technological independence, economic growth, and national security.<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In this context, Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) and Satcom Industry Association of India (SIA-India) have developed cyber security guidelines to strengthen India\u2019s space ecosystem.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Main Features of CERT-In Space Cyber Security Framework\u00a0<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Comprehensive Ecosystem Coverage<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: The framework secures the entire space communication ecosystem, including satellites, ground infrastructure, communication links, and space-related supply chains.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Defence-in-Depth Approach<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: It adopts a multi-layered security model based on defence in depth, breadth, and height to address evolving cyber threats. Response Team (CERT-In) works under the <\/span><b>Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, Government of India.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is the <\/span><b>national agency responsible for handling cyber security incidents in India under Section 70B of the <a
