{"id":9052,"date":"2026-08-07T12:10:53","date_gmt":"2026-08-07T06:40:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=9052"},"modified":"2026-08-07T14:52:10","modified_gmt":"2026-08-07T09:22:10","slug":"national-means-cum-merit-scholarship-scheme-nmmss","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/national-means-cum-merit-scholarship-scheme-nmmss\/","title":{"rendered":"National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship Scheme"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship Scheme Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Department of School Education and Literacy under the Ministry of Education has invited fresh and renewal applications for the National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship Scheme (NMMSS) for the 2026-27 academic year.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship Scheme<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is a <\/span><b>central sector Scheme<\/b> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">launched in <\/span><b>2008.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Objective:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> It was launched with the objective of awarding <\/span><b>scholarships to meritorious students belonging<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to <\/span><b>economically weaker sections<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to <\/span><b>reduce dropout<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> at the secondary stage by encouraging them to <\/span><b>continue their education after Class VIII.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">NMMSS is on the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/national-scholarship-portal-nsp\/\" target=\"_blank\"><b>National Scholarship Portal<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (NSP) \u2013 a one-stop platform for scholarship schemes given to students.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Features of National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship Scheme<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Under the Scheme, <\/span><b>one lakh fresh scholarships are awarded every year<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to eligible students <\/span><b>studying in Class IX,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> with <\/span><b>renewal of the scholarship in Classes X to XII.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Parents Income:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Students whose parental income from all sources <\/span><b>is not more than Rs. 350,000\/- per annum.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The students must have a minimum of <\/span><b>55% marks or an equivalent grade<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in the <\/span><b>Class VII<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> examination (relaxable by 5% for SC\/ST students).<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The students should be studying as regular students in a <\/span><b>Government, Government-aided and local body school.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The students studying in the <\/span><b>Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (NVS), <\/span><b>Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (KVS), and <\/span><b>residential schools<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> are <\/span><b>not eligible for the scholarships<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> under the NMMSS.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There is reservation as per State Government norms.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Selection Test:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Each State and UT conducts its own test to select students for awarding the National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship. The test is conducted at the stage of class VIII.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Selection of Renewal Awardees Students<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The awardees should get a minimum of <\/span><b>60% marks in Class X for<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> continuation of scholarship (relaxable by 5% for SC\/ST candidates) in the next higher classes.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For continuing the scholarship in class X and XII, the awardees should get a clear promotion from class IX to class X and from class XI to class XII in the first attempt.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship Scheme is a central sector Scheme launched in 2008.
