{"id":9052,"date":"2025-10-24T14:10:53","date_gmt":"2025-10-24T08:40:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=9052"},"modified":"2025-10-24T14:39:34","modified_gmt":"2025-10-24T09:09:34","slug":"national-means-cum-merit-scholarship-scheme-nmmss","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/national-means-cum-merit-scholarship-scheme-nmmss\/","title":{"rendered":"National Means Cum Merit Scholarship Scheme (NMMSS)"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>National Means cum Merit Scholarship Scheme Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The State Councils of Educational Research and Training (SCERTs) recently released the application forms for the National Means cum Merit Scholarship Scheme (NMMS) for various states.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About National Means cum Merit Scholarship Scheme<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is a <\/span><b>Centrally Sponsored Scheme <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">launched in May, <\/span><b>2008<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Objective: Award <\/span><b>scholarships to meritorious students of economically weaker sections <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">to <\/span><b>arrest their dropout at class VIII<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and encourage them to continue the study at the secondary stage.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">NMMSS is <\/span><b>on the National Scholarship Portal (NSP)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u2013 a one-stop platform for scholarship schemes given to students.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Benefits<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">:<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>One lakh fresh scholarships<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> are awarded by the Ministry of Education to selected students <\/span><b>every year for study in classes from IX to XII in recognized Government, Government-aided, and local body schools.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There is a <\/span><b>quota of scholarships for different states<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\/UTs.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The amount of scholarship is <\/span><b>Rs. 12000\/- per annum<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (Rs. 1000\/- per month) per student.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These scholarships are <\/span><b>disbursed directly into the bank accounts<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of selected students by electronic transfer.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Eligibility Criteria:<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Students whose <\/span><b>parental income<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> from all sources is <\/span><b>not more than Rs. 350,000\/- per annum.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The students must have a <\/span><b>minimum of 55% marks<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> or an equivalent grade <\/span><b>in the Class VII examination (relaxable by 5% for SC\/ST students).<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The students should be studying as <\/span><b>regular students in a Government, Government-aided and local body school.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>students <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">studying<\/span><b> in the Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS), Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS), and residential schools are not eligible<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for the scholarships under the NMMSS.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There is<\/span><b> reservation as per State Government norms.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Selection Test: Each State and UT conducts its own test<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to select students for awarding the National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship.
