While many economies are still dealing with slow recovery, supply chain disruptions, and geopolitical tensions, India\u2019s Export Performance has shown steady growth.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>India\u2019s Export Performance: Overall Growth Trends<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><b>India\u2019s Export Performance has remained strong after the pandemic<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, reflecting the country\u2019s economic resilience.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>India\u2019s Export Performance grew by around 6.15%, even as the global economy faced uncertainty and trade disruptions.<\/b><\/li>\n<li><b>India\u2019s total exports (goods and services) reached about USD 720.76 billion <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">between April 2025 and January 2026.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Services exports reached USD 387.5 billion in FY25<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, creating a trade surplus of USD 188.8 billion.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>India ranks among the top 5 countries in export product diversity and top 3 in trade partner diversity, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">which strengthens India\u2019s Export Performance against global shocks.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Multiple sectors such as electronics, petroleum products, pharmaceuticals, textiles, automobiles, and defence are contributing to the steady rise in India\u2019s Export Performance.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>India\u2019s Export Performance in Key Sectors<\/b><\/h2>\n<h3><b>Petroleum Products<\/b><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">India has developed a strong refining capacity and has emerged as the <\/span><b>seventh-largest exporter of refined petroleum products globally.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The country is also <\/span><b>among the top five refining nations in the world<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, supported by modern infrastructure and strategic geographic location.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><b>Electronics Exports<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Electronics has become one of the fastest-growing sectors in India\u2019s Export Performance.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Electronic goods moved from the seventh-largest export category in FY22 to the third-largest in FY25.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>India<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is the <\/span><b>world&#8217;s second-largest mobile phone manufacturer<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, with more than 300 manufacturing units operating today compared to just two units in 2014.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Smartphones are a major driver of India\u2019s Export Performance. In the first five months of FY 2025-26, smartphone exports crossed \u20b91 lakh crore, showing a 55% increase compared to the previous year.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><b>Pharmaceutical and Chemical Exports<\/b><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">India\u2019s pharmaceutical sector continues to strengthen India\u2019s Export Performance.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>India<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> ranks as the <\/span><b>world\u2019s third-largest pharmaceutical producer<\/b> <b>by volume<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and the <\/span><b>eleventh largest by value<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, with the sector recording an annual turnover of \u20b94.72 lakh crore in FY25.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">India <\/span><b>ranks 11th globally in pharmaceutical exports by value<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, accounting for about 3% of the global market.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Exports of medical devices have also expanded significantly, increasing from USD 2.5 billion in FY21 to USD 4.1 billion in FY25.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">India is often called the<\/span><b> \u201cPharmacy of the World ,\u201d<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> as it plays a crucial role in ensuring access to cost-effective generic drugs.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><b>Textile and Apparel Exports<\/b><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">India is the <\/span><b>sixth-largest exporter of textiles and apparel globally<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, holding around 4% share in global exports in this segment.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Exports of textiles and apparel increased from USD 35.87 billion in FY24 to USD 37.75 billion in FY25, reflecting steady demand for Indian garments, fabrics, and handicrafts in international markets.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><b>Automobile Exports<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Automobile manufacturing has become an important component of India\u2019s Export Performance.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><b>India has emerged as a major exporter of two-wheelers, passenger vehicles, and commercial vehicles.<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Automobile exports increased from 4.13 million units in FY21 to 5.36 million units in FY25, reflecting growing global demand for India-manufactured vehicles.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><b>Defence Exports<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A notable transformation in India\u2019s Export Performance has been witnessed in the defence sector.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Defence exports reached a record \u20b923,622 crore in FY 2024-25, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">compared to less than \u20b91,000 crore in 2014.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Indian defence equipment is now exported to over 100 countries, demonstrating the growing global confidence in information technology services, financial services, consulting, and digital platforms continues to strengthen India\u2019s global presence in the services <\/span><b>India has signed nine Free Trade Agreements covering 38 countries,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> providing access to markets representing nearly 70% of global GDP.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These agreements are designed to reduce trade barriers, expand market access for Indian goods and services, and strengthen the long-term stability of India\u2019s Export Performance.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Policy Initiatives Strengthening India\u2019s Export Performance<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Several government initiatives have played a crucial role in supporting India\u2019s Export Performance.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) Schemes<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme was first launched in 2020 to encourage companies to manufacture more products in India and increase exports.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>PLI Scheme for Automobile and Auto Components<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: This scheme promotes the manufacturing of high-value Advanced Automotive Technology (AAT) vehicles and components. It aims to attract investment and make India a global hub for advanced automobile manufacturing. By September 2025, the scheme had attracted investments of around \u20b935,657 crore, strengthening the automobile sector and contributing to India\u2019s Export Performance.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>PLI for Bulk Drugs<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: India has traditionally depended on imports for important pharmaceutical inputs such as Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs), Key Starting Materials (KSMs), and drug intermediates. The <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/production-linked-incentive-pli-scheme\/\" target=\"_blank\">PLI scheme<\/a><\/strong> for bulk drugs encourages domestic production of these critical materials. It has created an annual manufacturing capacity of about 55,000 metric tonnes for 26 essential products, which supports pharmaceutical exports and improves India\u2019s Export Performance.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Export Promotion Mission (EPM)<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>Export Promotion Mission (EPM)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is a major initiative approved with an outlay of \u20b925,060 crore for the period 2025-26 to 2030-31. The mission <\/span><b>aims to strengthen the overall export ecosystem, improve access to affordable trade finance, and prepare Indian businesses to compete in global markets.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> It operates through two sub-schemes: <\/span><b>Niryat Protsahan and Niryat Disha.<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Key interventions under the mission include:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>E-Commerce Credit Assistance<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: This provides financial support to exporters selling through digital platforms. Businesses can access credit facilities of up to \u20b950 lakh for domestic e-commerce exports and up to \u20b95 crore for overseas expansion, supported by government guarantees.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>TRACE (Trade Regulations, Accreditation and Compliance Enablement)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: This initiative helps exporters meet international regulatory standards. It reimburses 60-75% of compliance costs, with a maximum limit of \u20b925 lakh per exporter annually.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>FLOW (Facilitating Logistics, Overseas Warehousing and Fulfilment)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: FLOW supports Indian exporters in setting up overseas warehouses and distribution networks. The scheme provides support of up to 30% of approved project costs.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>LIFT (Logistics Interventions for Freight and Transport)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: This scheme helps exporters from districts with lower export activity by reimbursing up to 30% of freight costs, with a cap of \u20b920 lakh per exporter annually.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>INSIGHT (Integrated Support for Trade Intelligence and Facilitation)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: INSIGHT focuses on improving market research, trade intelligence, and exporter capacity building by funding 50-100% of project costs.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Semiconductor and Electronics Manufacturing Initiatives<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Strengthening high-technology manufacturing is another major focus area for improving India\u2019s Export Performance.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Electronics Component Manufacturing Scheme (ECMS)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: Notified in 2025 with an outlay of \u20b940,000 crore, this scheme promotes domestic manufacturing of key electronic components. For example, tariff increases by the United States in 2025 affected sectors such as textiles, steel, and seafood exports.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Non-tariff barriers<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, including complex documentation requirements and strict rules of origin under trade agreements.
