{"id":91691,"date":"2026-03-09T11:29:46","date_gmt":"2026-03-09T05:59:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=91691"},"modified":"2026-03-09T16:13:23","modified_gmt":"2026-03-09T10:43:23","slug":"bharatnet-project-upsc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/bharatnet-project-upsc\/","title":{"rendered":"BharatNet Project"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>BharatNet Project Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Recently, the government said that through BharatNet project India expanded its optical fibre networks, 5G services and digital public infrastructure to more than 2.15 lakh Gram Panchayats.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About BharatNet Project<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is a project of the Government of India aimed at <\/span><b>providing broadband connectivity<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to all <\/span><b>Gram Panchayats (GPs) in the country.<\/b><\/li>\n<li><b>Objective:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> The primary objective is to provide unrestricted access to broadband connectivity to all the telecom service providers.<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This enables access providers like mobile operators, <\/span><b>Internet Service Providers<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (ISPs), Cable TV operators, and content providers to launch various services such as <\/span><b>e-health, e-education, and e-governance in rural and remote India.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><b>Phases of BharatNet Project<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><b>Phase I:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Focused on laying optical fibre cables to <\/span><b>connect 1 lakh Gram Panchayats<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> by utilising existing infrastructure. This phase was completed in December 2017<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><b>Phase II(ongoing):<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Expanded coverage to an <\/span><b>additional 1.5 lakh Gram Panchayats<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> using optical fibre, radio, and satellite technologies.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><b>Phase III (ongoing):<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Aims at <\/span><b>future-proofing<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> the network by integrating 5G technologies, increasing bandwidth capacity, and ensuring robust last-mile connectivity.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Funding:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> It is primarily funded through the <\/span><b>Digital Bharat Nidhi<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (DBN), which is a fund that replaced the Universal Service Obligation Fund (USOF).<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Implementation:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> It is being executed by a <\/span><b>Special Purpose Vehicle<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (SPV) namely <\/span><b>Bharat Broadband Network Limited (BBNL).<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Source: <\/b><a href=\"https:\/\/ddnews.gov.in\/en\/bharatnet-connects-2-15-lakh-gram-panchayats-as-rural-digital-network-expands\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>DD News<\/strong><\/span><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>BharatNet Project is a project of the Government of India aimed at providing broadband connectivity to all Gram Panchayats (GPs) in the country.
