


{"id":91953,"date":"2026-03-10T14:41:47","date_gmt":"2026-03-10T09:11:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=91953"},"modified":"2026-03-11T15:34:03","modified_gmt":"2026-03-11T10:04:03","slug":"sinhagad-fort","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/sinhagad-fort\/","title":{"rendered":"Sinhagad Fort"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>Sinhagad Fort Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">At least 25 people were injured after a swarm of bees attacked visitors at Sinhagad Fort recently.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Sinhagad Fort<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sinhagad, <\/span><b>earlier known as \u2018Kondhana<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2019, is a fortress located <\/span><b>near Pune, Maharashtra.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It perched on an <\/span><b>isolated cliff<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of the<\/span><b> Bhuleswar range of Sahyadri Mountains,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> 1,312 m above sea level.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to history, the fort was <\/span><b>built 2,000 years ago <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and it is said that the <\/span><b>name Kondana <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">was<\/span><b> derived from sage Kaundinya.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Early inscriptions and carvings<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> suggest it served as a <\/span><b>spiritual retreat and strategic outpost for ancient dynasties.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Mohammed bin Tughalak captured<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> the fort <\/span><b>from the Koli tribal chieftain, Nag Naik <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">in <\/span><b>1340 CE.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>In 1496 CE, Malik Ahma<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">d, the<\/span><b> founder of the Nizam Shahi dynasty took control<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of the fort.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Nearly<\/span><b> 200 years later<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the <\/span><b>Maratha leader Shahaji Bhonsale captured <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the fort.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>In 1647 CE, Shivaji held <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the stronghold.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In <\/span><b>1665 CE, as per the Treaty of Purandar,<\/b> <b>Shivaji handed over Sinhagad to the Mughals <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and <\/span><b>again captured<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> it in <\/span><b>1670 CE, under the direction of Tanaji Malusare<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> who was <\/span><b>Shivaji&#8217;s favorite general.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It has witnessed epic battles, including the legendary B<\/span><b>attle of Sinhagad in 1670<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, where valor, sacrifice, and strategy led to an unforgettable v<\/span><b>ictory for the Marathas over the Mughal Army.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">While recouping the fort during<\/span><b> Battle of Sinhagad,<\/b> <b>Malusare lost his life<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for which <\/span><b>Shivaji <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Maharaj<\/span><b> honoured the fort with the name Sinhagad Fort or Lion\u2019s Fort.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Aurangzeb laid siege<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to Sinhagad in 1701- 03 CE, but <\/span><b>could not hold it for long.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Finally the <\/span><b>British seized <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the fort from the Marathas in <\/span><b>1818 AD<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.
