{"id":92471,"date":"2026-08-26T13:58:01","date_gmt":"2026-08-26T08:28:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=92471"},"modified":"2026-08-26T14:01:22","modified_gmt":"2026-08-26T08:31:22","slug":"national-shipping-board","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/national-shipping-board\/","title":{"rendered":"National Shipping Board"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>National Shipping Board Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Recently, the National Shipping Board (NSB) held its first \u2018Sagar Samvad\u2019 and has proposed a five-point roadmap to add 100 vessels to India\u2019s merchant fleet over the next five years.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About National Shipping Board<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is a <\/span><b>permanent statutory body<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> established in 1959, under Section 4 of <\/span><b>Merchant Shipping Act, 1958.<\/b><\/li>\n<li><b>Function:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> It advises the Govt. of India on matters related to <\/span><b>shipping including the development.<\/b><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It has played a very distinguished role in the Maritime development of the country, as its deliberation and recommendations have contributed to the evolution of a sound and <\/span><b>pragmatic National Maritime Policy over the years.<\/b><\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><b>Composition<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It consists of <\/span><b>Chairman and Members.<\/b><\/li>\n<li><b>Six Members<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> elected by Parliament (Four from the Lok Sabha and two from Rajya Sabha from amongst its Members).<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Tenure:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> The Chairman and other members of the Board held <\/span><b>office for a period of two years.<\/b><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Such Members of other <\/span><b>members not exceeding sixteen<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> as the Central Government may think fit to appoint on the Board to represent the Central Government, Ship-owners, and Seamen.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Nodal Ministry:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Source: <\/b><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pib.gov.in\/PressReleaseDetail.aspx?PRID=2303260&amp;reg=48&amp;lang=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">PIB<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>National Shipping Board is a permanent statutory body established in 1959, under Section 4 of Merchant Shipping Act, 1958.
