Nadu- State level committee:<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>The committee, which has a two-year tenure, will take steps for monitoring the conservation and recovery of existing vulture sites and mapping of vulture populations across the State for creating safe zones.<\/li>\n<li>It will work to eliminate the use of toxic veterinary drugs (Diclofenac), the main reason for vulture fatalities.<\/li>\n<li>Prevention of poisoning of cattle carcasses, the principal food of vultures, is also one of the responsibilities of the newly formed committee.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><strong>In Tamil Nadu, four species of vultures are found \u2014<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>the Oriental white-backed vulture,<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>the long-billed vulture,<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>the red-headed vulture, and<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>the Egyptian vulture.\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>The first three are residents and can be found in the\u00a0<strong>landscapes of the Nilgiris and Sathyamangalam.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>There is evidence of Egyptian vulture breeding only at one site in\u00a0<strong>Dharmapuri<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><strong>Vulture population:<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>96% of India\u2019s vulture population declined between 1993 and 2003.<\/li>\n<li>Therefore, the Central government put into place two action plans to protect the species at the national level \u2014 the first in 2006 and the second, ongoing plan for 2020-2025.<\/li>\n<li>One of the important action points in this nationwide plan is the formation of State-level committees to save the critically endangered population of vultures.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><strong>Vulture species in India:<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>9 species of vultures are found in India.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Of these nine species,\u00a04 are listed as Critically Endangered\u00a0species of Vultures and\u00a0one as endangered species\u00a0in IUCN red list of endangered species.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><strong>Species of Vultures found in India
