{"id":93443,"date":"2026-03-18T12:17:10","date_gmt":"2026-03-18T06:47:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=93443"},"modified":"2026-03-18T15:06:42","modified_gmt":"2026-03-18T09:36:42","slug":"kalinjar-fort","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/kalinjar-fort\/","title":{"rendered":"Kalinjar Fort"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>Kalinjar Fort Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The hill region surrounding the Kalinjar Fort in Banda was officially declared a National Geo-Heritage Site by the Geological Survey of India (GSI) recently.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Kalinjar Fort<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is located in the <\/span><b>Banda district<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of <\/span><b>Uttar Pradesh.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is situated on an i<\/span><b>solated hilltop, surrounded by the Vindhya Mountains <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and the <\/span><b>Ken River.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is <\/span><b>one of the oldest <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and most impressive forts in the country.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Many decisive battles<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> were fought for the possession of this strategically located fort in <\/span><b>ancient, medieval, and modern times.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>History<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">:<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The history of Kalinjar Fort is <\/span><b>more than 1500 years old<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Historical documents and inscriptions indicate that a strategic fort was <\/span><b>established during the Gupta period (4th-6th century).\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Later, Kalinjar <\/span><b>came under the <a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/upsc-exam\/northern-kingdoms-in-medieval-india-paramaras-chandelas-kalachuris-sisodiyas\/\" target=\"_blank\">Chandela dynasty<\/a> (9th-13th century)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and became <\/span><b>one of their capitals.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">During the rule of the <\/span><b>Chandela kings<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the fort <\/span><b>developed into a military fort <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">on one side <\/span><b>and a religious centre<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> on the other.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Mahmud Ghaznavi, Qutubuddin Aibak, and Humayun attacked<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> it and wanted to win it but <\/span><b>could not succeed.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Finally, in <\/span><b>1569 AD, Akbar won this fort<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><b>gifted it to Birbal<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. <\/span><b>After Birbal, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">this fort came <\/span><b>under the Bundel king Chhatrasal.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">After them, the fort was occupied by Hardev Shah of Panna.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>In 1812,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> this fort became <\/span><b>under the British.<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The fort also houses <\/span><b>mosques, temples, palaces, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and <\/span><b>stepwells<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">One of the main attractions of Kalinjar is the <\/span><b>Neelkanth Temple.\u00a0<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It was <\/span><b>built by Chandela ruler Paramaditya Dev.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>Shiva lingam is of blue stone<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in addition to the giant 18-arm statue in the temple. <\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Source<\/b><strong>: <a href=\"https:\/\/timesofindia.indiatimes.com\/city\/kanpur\/kalinjar-fort-area-declared-as-natl-geo-heritage-site-by-gsi\/articleshow\/129616829.cms\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">TOI<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Kalinjar Fort is located in the Banda district of Uttar Pradesh.
