With this recognition, he becomes <\/span><b>only the third Tamil writer to receive the award and the first to be honoured primarily for Tamil poetry. <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The other two Tamil writers who received the Jnanpith Award are <\/span><b>Akilan<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, awarded in 1975 and <\/span><b>D. Jayakanthan<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, awarded in 2002.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About R. Vairamuthu<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><b>R. Vairamuthu is a leading figure in contemporary Tamil literature<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. He is known as a poet, lyricist, and writer, with contributions across poetry, novels, and film songs.
