{"id":93671,"date":"2026-03-19T14:44:55","date_gmt":"2026-03-19T09:14:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=93671"},"modified":"2026-03-20T17:26:13","modified_gmt":"2026-03-20T11:56:13","slug":"coconut","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/coconut\/","title":{"rendered":"Coconut"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>Coconut Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Recently the Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare informed the Lok Sabha that India is the world\u2019s largest producer of coconuts contributing to 30.37% of the Global coconut production.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Coconut<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Coconut (Cocos nucifera) is a large palm of the family Arecaceae.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It grows in the <\/span><b>subtropical coastal regions of Asia<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (India, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Indonesia) and Oceania.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It originated<\/span><b> in Southeast Asia,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and was transported throughout the Pacific either by migrating Indonesians and Polynesians.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Distribution in India:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> It is majorly grown in <\/span><b>Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, Odisha, Goa, and West Bengal.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Uses:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Coconuts are used as whole fruits or, conversely, by their parts: mesocarp fibers, milk, kernel (or flesh), husk.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Required Climatic Conditions for Coconut<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Rainfall:<\/b> <b>1000-3000 mm per year<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Prefers evenly distributed rainfall<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Temperature:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Optimum <\/span><b>27\u00b0C<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> with a diurnal variation of 6-7 0C Cold spells are more limiting than high temperatures. Light- Coconut palm requires maximum sunlight.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Altitude:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Up to <\/span><b>600 m above mean sea level<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If temperature remains favourable, the palm grows <\/span><b>well up to an altitude of 800 m.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Humidity:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0 Needs warm and humid conditions<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Soils: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is particularly adapted to the <\/span><b>coastal light sandy and sandy loam type soils<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.
