{"id":9368,"date":"2025-09-19T10:46:46","date_gmt":"2025-09-19T05:16:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=9368"},"modified":"2025-09-19T15:04:31","modified_gmt":"2025-09-19T09:34:31","slug":"national-maritime-heritage-complex-nmhc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/national-maritime-heritage-complex-nmhc\/","title":{"rendered":"National Maritime Heritage Complex (NMHC)"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>National Maritime Heritage Complex Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Prime Minister will review the progress of the National Maritime Heritage Complex (NMHC) at Lothal in the Ahmedabad district during his one-day visit to the state, officials said recently.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About National Maritime Heritage Complex\u00a0<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is a <\/span><b>flagship project of the Govt of India<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to piece together the entire <\/span><b>5000 years of India\u2019s maritime history<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and showcase it under one roof.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The<\/span><b> Ministry of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways, under its <a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/sagarmala-project\/\" target=\"_blank\">SagarMala Programme<\/a><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, is <\/span><b>developing the NMHC at Lothal, Gujarat.<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The location\u2013\u2018Lothal\u2019\u2013is significant since it is<\/span><b> one of the prominent cities<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of the ancient <\/span><b>Indus Valley Civilization (IVC) <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">dating back to 2400 BC, located 76 km from Ahmedabad in Gujarat.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is the <\/span><b>only port town of the IVC.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Archaeological excavations have discovered the <\/span><b>oldest man-made dockyard, over 5000 years old<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, in Lothal.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The NMHC is envisioned to be <\/span><b>one of the largest maritime complexes in the world.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It will be a one of its kind,<\/span><b> digitally enhanced, experiential museum<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> with the aim of attracting tourists and historians from all over the world, who will get to see and learn about the rich and diverse maritime history of India.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>Ministry of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">has a<\/span><b>ppointed the Indian Ports Association as the nodal agency,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> while<\/span><b> Indian Port Rail Corporation Ltd. (IPRCL) is the executing agency <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">of the project.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is being developed in an <\/span><b>area of about 400 acres <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">with an <\/span><b>estimated cost of Rs. 4500 crore.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Funding<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">:\u00a0<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The NMHC project shall be <\/span><b>funded by the Ministry of Shipping and Ministry of Culture through National Culture Fund by way of grant.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>In the future<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, o<\/span><b>ther Central Line Ministries, Coastal States <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&amp; UTs, other<\/span><b> government institutions, private organizations,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and the public<\/span><b> shall be approached for contributions<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> either from their CSR funds or otherwise to the bank account of IPRCL-NMHC vertical.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">NMHC is planned to be <\/span><b>developed in various phases.<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Phase 1A<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> will have an <\/span><b>NMHC museum<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> with <\/span><b>six galleries,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> which also includes an <\/span><b>Indian Navy &amp; Coast Guard gallery <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">envisaged to be one of the largest in the country.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Phase 1B<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> will have <\/span><b>NMHC museum with 8 more galleries,<\/b> <b>Lighthouse museum<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> which is planned to be the<\/span><b> world\u2019s tallest, and the Bagicha complex<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (with a car parking facility for about 1500 cars, a food hall, a medical centre, etc.).<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Phase 2 <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">will have <\/span><b>coastal states\u2019 pavilion<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">s, a hospitality zone, a <\/span><b>recreation of real-time Lothal City,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Maritime Institute and hostel and four theme-based parks.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Phases 1A and 1B <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">of the project are to be <\/span><b>developed in EPC mode,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><b>Phase 2 <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">of the project will be<\/span><b> developed through land subleasing\/PPP<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to establish NMHC as a world-class heritage museum.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A <\/span><b>separate society will be set up for the development of future phases<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, to be <\/span><b>governed by a Governing Council headed by the <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Minister of <\/span><b>Ports, Shipping, and Waterways.<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\">This society will <b style=\"font-size: inherit;\">manage the implementation and operation of the NMHC.<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Source<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">:<\/span><strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theweek.in\/wire-updates\/national\/2025\/09\/18\/bes18-gj-pm-lothal.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">WEEK<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Ministry of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways is developing the National Maritime Heritage Complex (NMHC), a world-class facility at Lothal, Gujarat.
