This area is extremely difficult to access due to harsh weather and rugged terrain, but it holds great strategic importance for India.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Northernmost Point of India<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">India\u2019s northernmost point is <\/span><b>Indira Col<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, located in the high mountains of the <\/span><b><a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/karakoram-range\/\" target=\"_blank\">Karakoram Range<\/a> in Ladakh.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> It lies in a very remote and extremely cold region near the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/siachen-glacier\/\" target=\"_blank\">Siachen Glacier<\/a><\/strong>.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Indira Col West is a high mountain pass situated at an altitude of about <\/span><b>5,988 metres (19,646 feet) on the Indira Ridge.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is located near the <\/span><b>meeting point of India, Pakistan, and China,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> along the boundary between the Indian-controlled Siachen Glacier and the Chinese-controlled Trans-Karakoram Tract, both of which are part of the disputed Kashmir region, making it strategically very important.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Nearby is Indira Col East, which lies around <\/span><b>2.4 km east of Indira Col West<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> at a height of<\/span><b> 5,764 metres (18,911 feet). <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is also known as the <\/span><b>main Indira Col.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">One important feature of this region is that the <\/span><b>Actual Ground Position Line (AGPL)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> which marks the positions of Indian and Pakistani troops in the Siachen area ends near Indira Col.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Terrain and Accessibility:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> The region is extremely difficult to access due to heavy snow, glaciers, and harsh weather.
