{"id":9440,"date":"2025-10-18T11:34:58","date_gmt":"2025-10-18T06:04:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=9440"},"modified":"2025-10-18T14:00:26","modified_gmt":"2025-10-18T08:30:26","slug":"green-crackers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/green-crackers\/","title":{"rendered":"Green Crackers"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>Green Crackers Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Recently, the Supreme Court has permitted only green crackers to be sold in Delhi-NCR region.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Green Crackers<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Green crackers are <\/span><b>fireworks developed<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> by the government\u2019s <\/span><b>Council of Scientific and Industrial Research-National Environmental Engineering Research Institute<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (CSIR-NEERI).\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Green crackers were developed after the Supreme Court banned conventional firecrackers <\/span><b>in 2017.<\/b><\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Three <\/span><b>types of green crackers<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> have been developed \u2013 <\/span><b>SWAS <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(Safe Water Releasable), <\/span><b>STAR <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(Safe Thermite Cracker), and <\/span><b>SAFAL <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(Safe Minimal Aluminium),<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Features of Green Crackers<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">They are made by reducing the <\/span><b>size of the shells<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, eliminating ash, using fewer raw materials, and adding dust-suppressing additives.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>There are two main categories of green crackers<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: improved crackers that modify existing formulations to cut emissions; and new formulation crackers that replace polluting ingredients altogether.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Metals, which form part of particulate matter, are either minimized or eliminated to reduce toxicity.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Chemical composition of Green Crackers<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Green crackers, on the other hand<\/span><b>, exclude barium compounds<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and have drastically-reduced aluminium and sulphur content.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">They <\/span><b>rely on cleaner oxidisers<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and formulations that <\/span><b>limit the release of harmful particulates.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Conventional firecrackers use chemicals such as <\/span><b>barium, sulphur, potassium nitrate, and aluminium,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> which produce bright colours and loud noises. They also release heavy metals and toxic gases into the air.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Advantage of Green Crackers<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">They <\/span><b>produce brightness and sound comparable<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to conventional firecrackers (around 100 to120 dB) and <\/span><b>reduce particulate matter<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (PM), SO2, and NO2 emissions by at least 30 per cent.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Identification of green crackers<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Genuine green crackers can be identified through two mandatory features introduced by CSIR-NEERI which include\u00a0 the official Green Fireworks logo printed on the packaging, and<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">a unique QR code that can be scanned using <\/span><b>the \u2018CSIR-NEERI Green QR Code\u2019 mobile app.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Scanning the code provides details about the manufacturer, formulation, and NEERI certification status of the product.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Source<\/b><strong>: <a href=\"https:\/\/indianexpress.com\/article\/cities\/delhi\/how-to-identify-genuine-green-crackers-approved-for-sale-in-delhi-ncr-10312075\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">IE<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Green Crackers are fireworks developed by the government\u2019s Council of Scientific and Industrial Research-National Environmental Engineering Research Institute (CSIR-NEERI).
