The CuAAC reaction is an improved form of the azide-alkyne Huisgen cycloaddition.<\/li>\n<li>Bertozzi improved the field further by developing\u00a0<strong>click reactions<\/strong>\u00a0that work inside living organisms. These bioorthogonal reactions do not disrupt the normal chemistry of the cell.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><strong>What is click chemistry?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Click chemistry is a functional field where molecules snap together quickly and efficiently \u2013 literally like a click. It is defined as a \u201cset of powerful, highly reliable, and selective reactions for the rapid synthesis of useful new compounds and combinatorial libraries through heteroatom links\u201d.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Need of Click Chemistry<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Replicating reactions that involve bonds between carbon atoms \u2013 that are vital to the existence of life \u2013 is expensive and often leads to side reactions and loss of material.<\/li>\n<li>Instead of trying to make carbon atoms react with each other, Dr. Sharpless\u2019s research focuses on using smaller molecules that already have a complete carbon frame.
