Operation Muskaan, also known as <\/span>Operation Smile<\/b>, is a nationwide initiative launched by the <\/span>Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA)<\/b> in 2015 to trace, rescue, and rehabilitate missing children. The word \u201cMuskaan\u201d means \u201csmile,\u201d symbolising the effort to restore safety, dignity, and happiness in children\u2019s lives. It is usually conducted as a month-long campaign, during which police and other agencies actively search for missing children, inspect child care institutions, and work towards reuniting children with their families. The operation also focuses on protecting children from trafficking, forced labour, begging, and other forms of exploitation.<\/span><\/p>\n

Operation Muskaan Background<\/b><\/h2>\n

Operation Muskaan began as a pilot project by the Ghaziabad Police in 2014. It aimed to locate and rescue missing children and was highly successful in its initial phase. Recognising its effectiveness, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) adopted it at the national level in July 2015. Since then, it has become a regular, coordinated initiative across states and an integral part of India\u2019s child protection system.<\/span><\/p>\n
