{"id":95421,"date":"2026-06-12T12:09:18","date_gmt":"2026-06-12T06:39:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=95421"},"modified":"2026-06-12T13:49:50","modified_gmt":"2026-06-12T08:19:50","slug":"shigellosis","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/shigellosis\/","title":{"rendered":"Shigellosis"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>Shigellosis Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Recently, more cases of shigellosis (bacillary dysentery) are being reported across Keralam.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Shigellosis<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is a highly <\/span><b>contagious bacterial diarrhoeal disease<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> caused by shigella.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It can affect anyone, but children <\/span><b>under five are particularly susceptible.<\/b><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is one of the leading bacterial causes of diarrhoea worldwide.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Humans are the only natural reservoir<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of the Shigella bacteria.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The disease may be more severe in young children, older adults, immune-compromised individuals or malnourished persons.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Transmission<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The infection is <\/span><b>transmitted through direct, close contact with infected individuals,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> through the faecal-oral route and through sexual contact.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It can also spread through <\/span><b>contaminated food and water<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> or contact with faeces of an infected person.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><b>Symptoms<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>most common symptoms is diarrhoea,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> which can be bloody, contain mucus and last for a prolonged period of three days or more.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Other symptoms include stomach cramps, vomiting, fever and feeling the need to pass stool even when the bowels are empty.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Treatment:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Medicines, including antibiotics may be prescribed for a serious infection.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Source: <\/b><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thehindu.com\/news\/national\/kerala\/kerala-reports-34-cases-of-shigellosis-in-june-so-far\/article71090342.ece\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">TH<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Shigellosis is a highly contagious bacterial diarrhoeal disease caused by shigella.
